Inspired by Joy Thigpen Wedding and Event Stylist

I love seeing beautiful events and spaces styled by Joy Thigpen…they look lived in, not like just an ordinary life has been there but one full of wonderful stories and memories. When I got a little more background information about Joy, my feelings  about her designs is no longer as mysterious as she has spent time living in the Atlanta area and shorter stints living in Italy, the Bolivian Amazon, Peru, and Vancouver, B.C. and traveled a good bit. She is sure to have many amazing experiences from those travels and they jump right out at you through her work. Joy commented on this, saying, “In other words, I am partly a deep-rooted Southerner and also very inspired by the ways others live their lives and express themselves. I love that.

Joy also shared with us, this information about her family which I think further buttresses everything I have ever felt or surmised about her and her work, “My mom is an interior decorator so, growing up, I was always exposed to the elements of design but I was a little late to catch on to the fact that my passions lie there as well. I didn’t take my first art class until the last semester of high school but it felt like home.”  Joy further cultivated her creative talents and eye by getting behind the camera and doing some photography. I think that has helped her to style events in a way that they are sure to create beautiful pictures.  About her job and past in photography, Joy said this, “My favorite scenario is when a client says: “I want it to feel like _________” and I get to translate a feeling into a color palette, textures, music, smells, lines, compositions and vignettes. Helping couples express their individuality is also especially inspiring. I guess you could say I’m shifting from taking pictures to making pictures.”

When she isn’t styling amazing spaces, Joy is chasing around her two little ones River and Oswin. Visit Design Sponge to see some images of Joy’s favorite images of her recent work and stay tuned for an exciting project launching in January in collaboration with Once Wed! 1. I love this gorgeous collection of photographs. So elegant yet so “real” (if style can be down to earth, this collection would be just that).

    Happy Weekend!

  2. I attended one of the events posted here (the collection of bright colors and rainbow streamers) and let me just say that it is equally if not more stunning and magical to experience an event planned and crafted by Joy Thigpen. She truely understands the mood and vision of each event and exceeds expectations a thousand times over. She not only plans and designs the event, she truely hand-crafts an interact-able work of art.

  3. I love her work. I am wondering does anyone know the name of the fabric used for the outdoor wedding on the white table?
