Toddler Spring Fashion

Little Hip Squeaks makes toddler Spring fashion easy, accessible,  and hip of course! Behind this fashionable children’s line, Amy, is the indisputable expert on what’s hot for tots this Spring, and has shared some of her favorite pieces and insider tips on shopping for toddlers here!

From Amy…

Our motto is that kids are fun, and their clothes should be too — it seems these days parents only have a choice between high-end, expensive Scandanavian style kids clothing, or over-designed duds from box stores. We love filling in that middle-ground, where clothing is still bright, playful and well made.

Living in Brooklyn, I’m super inspired by the way children absorb the culture around them, and the experiences of living in NYC. When I design prints and new pieces, I imagine the tots wearing them at their music lessons, grabbing croissants with their dads, or being toted around the farmers market. I love when I see real-life kids in our neighborhood wearing items from our collection, it makes me totally geek out.

This Spring, I’m really crazy about our Swing Dress. It’s perfect for layering with tights or a jean jacket, or great on its own as it warms up. When I first started LHS, my intentions were to really bring a lot of great options for boys — but designing for little girls is just so much fun.

When it comes to saving money on kids clothes, I love to buy seasonal pieces when they’re on clearance. I just snagged an amazing winter jacket for Eli that’s 2 sizes too large, for $20, marked down from $180! I’m also obsessed with second hand kid shops. Almost every city has one these days, and you can grab some really amazing deals — plus most of them will trade you store credit, if you bring in items your kids have outgrown.

I love to buy kids basics (like jeans and plain tee’s) at places like Target, and splurge on pieces that I’m really crazy for, that I can save for my future babies, or pass on to my good friends when they have children of their own. I’m always happy to invest in hoodies for Eli, they’re something he wears almost daily in the Spring and Fall, and are great for chilly summer nights and wearing inside during the winter. We can get a ton of usage out of just 2 or 3 in his wardrobe. I’m also happy to splurge on shoes. Kids feet grow so super fast, so we don’t buy multiple pairs — we just buy one really well made pair, that’ll last through the season. Accessories are a great item to spend a little extra on, too — headbands, trucker hats, scarves, bow ties. They never outgrow these kinds of goodies, and much like jewelry or a great pair of pumps for a lady — accessorizing makes the outfit.
