A Gingham Picnic Inspired First Birthday Party

This birthday bash is BIG! We’re talking a big white barn, long checkered tables, a greater than life-size illustration of the birthday girl, and a big balloon garland to boot! It’s only right that Kate, of Kate Rose Creative Group, throw the perfect picnic inspired first birthday party for her daughter (see her sweet nursery here!). And by the look on little Hallie’s face, she pulled it off expertly. Hallie ran around playing lawn games, wondering at the giant illustration of herself, giddily smashing her cake, and stealing everyone’s hearts.

Kate says, When it came time to designing my daughters first birthday party, I knew I wanted it to be different, fun and a treat for our guests. Old Bethany was the obvious choice of venue when it came to hosting our picnic inspired bash. I love their turf lawn so I wanted to utilize it and have picnic blanket lounge areas and lawn games for guests to enjoy.

The venue was a blank canvas full of white space. As a designer, this was fun for me! I knew I wanted a balloon arch and fun cakes to be the focal point. SureGood seriously outdid herself on the cakes! The cake was not only pretty, it taste good too! I also wanted to point out that the smash cake balloon was made out of real cake! I was so impressed by that. SureGood also provided hand painted cookies at each place setting. They were gorgeous and probably one of my favorite parts! CJs catering provided the food and it was delicious. Wild poppy did the florals and I love how feminine and girly the muted pink tones were with the blue linens and napkins.

I started the design process by putting together a color scheme and then finding Hallie’s outfit to coordinate. Once I had her outfit, I had a custom illustration done of her to blow up with my favorite children’s quote as a “wow” factor when guests arrived. I love personal touches at events and she loved the blown up drawing of herself!

You can’t have a picnic without gingham! We tied the gingham in with the napkins and the cocktail tables. The kids had the time of their lives at the kids table and playing the lawn games outside. Studio W designs made custom party invitations and I loved how they really reflected the party theme. Balloons by Gloria created two balloon garlands that were to die for! I couldn’t have asked for a better group of vendors!
