Over the years, Coachella has grown from an indie music festival to a cultivated weekend of art, culture, style, and endless activities. As one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, thousands of people look forward to expressing themselves through elaborate fashion and makeup trends, which have evolved from the original boho vibe of the festival to bright neon outfits. Parents Nikki and Chris loved the vibrant style behind Coachella so much, they decided what better theme for their baby’s first birthday than Babychella! The Coachella first birthday party was as beautiful, bright and insta-worthy as you can imagine! Colorful decor such as flowers, balloons, chairs, table cloths, and streamers made a perfect contrast with the rustic details, including wicker chairs, wooden tables, boho rugs, and even a crochet baby swing. The party wasn’t cute enough already, it was made even more fun with a tye-dye station, braid bar, and other activities for both kids and adults to enjoy. The planner, Stephanie from Wham-Bam Events, shares…
Don’t get me wrong, we love a traditional boho theme, but when Nikki (901 Salon co-owner) and her husband Chris called on us to create a Babychella celebration for their adorable soon-to-be one-year-old Parker, we knew that her boisterous personality demanded something brighter. We knew we wanted to be bold with pops of fluorescent pink, and I wanted to add some faux florals to keep it whimsical and young, so we tried to incorporate them in thoughtful places without overdoing it.
We enlisted Little Artist Party to facilitate a sensory slime station, as well as glitter tattoos and the biggest hit of all-a tie dye t shirt station for both kids and adults. The Beat Buds have such a special way of connecting with all the guests and keeping the party going. Since most 1st birthday parties are just as equally attended by families and friends without kids, we also added other activities friendly to all ages. 901 Salon set up a braid bar, and The Crown Collective made flower crowns for the guests like Emma Roberts, Amber Lancaster, Lauren Paul and Jamie Lynn Sigler, to name a few, to keep the boho vibe going.
Cabrera’s Balloons made the multicolored balloon clouds and organic arch installations that Laura from Nu Leaf Design dressed with color blocked florals. She also created wild and bold arrangements that really tied everything together.
Nikki and Chris have the most PERFECT yellow VW bug that we just had to use for gifts and favor bags-how could we not? We dressed it up with some oversized flowers from Greenset and it became such a great way to set the tone for the party, and lay out gift bags (with custom stamped leather tags from 8Lace and the cutest crayons from My Sunshine Bear on Etsy) along with collapsable water bottles and vip passes for all.
Laura Moll captured the party perfectly, and has such a great eye both for ambience and tone. DJ William Lifestyle kept the party going, and I think that if we hadn’t taken it all down, we’d still be celebrating today!
