DIY Valentine’s Day Heart Garland for Your Home

There’s something so classic about making a DIY Valentine’s Day craft!  Doesn’t it just take you back to all of those years of grade school, spending countless hours with glue, glitter, and paper everywhere?!  We were total perfectionists so every year they had to be bigger and better than the last!  If only we knew about blogs or had Pinterest back in the day 😉

Lucky for you, Lupa and Pepi has the perfect little Valentine’s Day DIY for you to try out today!  If you’re wishing your home looked a little more festive or is in the need of a pop of color, this simple project will be the perfect solution.  Five supplies, about 20 minutes, and maybe a glass of wine, and you’re good to go!

Supplies Needed:

Red Paper (3+ letter-sized sheets)

Gold Glitter Paper (1-2 letter-sized sheets)

Pencil

Scissors

Glue Stick

STEP 1

Fold the red paper in half lengthwise and then in half again so that you have 3 creases that divide the paper into 4 sections.

STEP 2

Cut along the creases so that you have 4 long strips of red paper.

STEP 3

Fold each strip in half and then in half and in half again so that the folded paper measures approximately 1-1/4 x 2 inches.

STEP 4

With a pencil, draw half of a heart on the folded red paper. The center of the heart should be on the fold and the outer edge of the heart should go off of the edge with loose ends.

STEP 5

With the paper still folded, cut out the heart.

STEP 6

The unfolded red paper that you just cut should look like this! Repeat steps 1 through 5 with the other strips of red paper.

STEP 7

Similar to steps 1 and 2, fold and cut the gold glitter paper but add an extra fold to make the strips even thinner! Cut along the creases to make 8 thin strips of gold glitter paper.

STEP 8

Fold a strip of the gold glitter paper in half 3 times and then cut along the creases. You should have 8 rectangles of gold glitter paper.

STEP 9

Stack up a few rectangles of the gold glitter paper, fold in half and draw half of a heart.

STEP 10

Cut out the heart that you drew. Repeat steps 7 through 10 with the rest of the gold glitter paper.

STEP 11

Place glue on the back of a gold heart and use it to hold together 2 strips of the red hearts. Repeat with the rest of the gold hearts to create the heart garland of the desired length.

Hang the finished garland and let us know how it went!  We’d love to see your finished product…Instagram a photo and hashtag #IBTdiy!
