Congratulations on becoming a new mom!  Has it been different than what you expected?

Yes and no. Everyone tells you that it’s going to be the most amazing thing you have ever experienced and it’s really true but so much more than you can imagine before it happens. You look at your baby and are just in awe of them. People also tell you it’s the hardest job you will ever do and that is true too. It’s been quite the adjustment for me and has been a challenge. Luckily a little smile makes it all worth it.

What did your typical day in your position look like before Elodie came along?

When I am not styling shoots or on location it’s usually me sitting in front of my computer for about 15 hours a day (sometimes more!). I’m having to work on emails, proposals, projects, social media, etc. I tend to be a workaholic and take on WAY too much!

What has been the biggest change for you now that you have Elodie and Glitter Guide to take care of?

Like most working moms I struggle to find balance and time. I think mothers who also run a small business from home have an added challenge. I don’t have a nanny yet so I juggle working and watching Elodie. That has been a really big challenge. Every break I get (when she naps) I have to decide if I am going to eat, shower, work, take a call, etc. It’s so hard. Luckily, my parents are helping me as much they can during the day when they get home from work. What I’m trying to learn is that I have to let things go. If I don’t get to something it’s just going to have to wait. I also remind myself to cherish this precious time with her.

What was the best advice you got from someone about being a new mom?

To cherish every moment. Some moments will feel rough and like you can’t do it, but it’s so short and passes and then you forget all about it. So it’s temporary. So make sure to relax as much as you can and enjoy this amazing journey with your new baby!

How do you plan on balancing being a working mom as Elodie gets older?

I’m definitely going to have to get help. I plan to get a nanny that can come a few days a week and watch her while I work. Even if it’s just for a few hours. I will need uninterrupted time to bust out as much work as I can.

How has Elodie changed your view for your company?

Now everything is for her. I want to be successful for her and be a role model for her. It makes me think about what projects I take on and where I want to go in the future.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Everything! A marine biologist, a fashion editor, casting director, you name it.

What’s your favorite lunch break activity right now?

CrossFit, a manicure or reading a magazine. If I could do all of them then that’s a great lunch break!

Do you have any beauty secrets?

Always wash your face at night and wear sunscreen!

If you could swap closets with one celeb, who would it be?

Diane Kruger. She’s got great style.

Any secret talent?

Making mix tapes (or now playlists). I like to think I have a knack for creating a killer combination.

I can’t live without (as a fashion lover)…

A black pair of ballet flats. They go with everything. Such a staple.

I can’t live without (as a new mom)…

A glass of wine. Some nights you just need to kick up your feet and relax to keep feeling like yourself.

  1. What a great feature! I can relate to many of Taylor’s experiences as a new mom with a new business! One thing I’ve learned is that there is no such thing as balance – because something will always be second. So I’ve learned to embrace that. There are times where I want nothing more than some QT with my son and then other times where I’m cranking full force on my collections. It’s not a give and take – it’s just the way my mompreneurhood has felt gratifying! Cheers to new beginnings 🙂 Here’s my new beginning: http://www.noreenkidwai.com
