A Fall Dinner Party on The Pasture

Of all the season’s, we think we’re most motivated to embrace fall – after all, who isn’t motivated by pumpkin spice, soft sweaters, and pretty pumpkins?! One of the ways we love to celebrate the season is with family and friends around a table. And this one, with it’s Terracotta orange and artichoke green color scheme and scenic landscape, is inspiring us to break out the blankets and invite over a few folks. Kasey Lee & Co., a stylist in Abilene, Texas, is sharing how to host a fall dinner party on the pasture – or in your own neck of the woods!

Kasey says, I started kicking around the idea of having a “picnic in the pasture” of sorts and things just started falling in to place. I wanted things to feel as though they belonged as much as possible. So, I pulled many natural elements into the tablescape. A few of them included wool, leather, hyacinth, recycled glass, terra-cotta, & linen. I also mixed in fresh seasonal produce, foliage & even a few iron pieces. A few days prior, I picked up a ton of white mini pumpkins, the salad, bread, and pumpkin spice cake! The day of, I grated lots of cheese, set the table, and whipped up a homemade lasagna. I enjoyed putting all of these pieces together to mimic the colors & beauty of our so called fall season here in Texas. Everyone was surprised & happy to have dinner waiting after an evening of smiling for the camera!

Here are a few tips for hosting a fall dinner party of your own!

1. Bring things you love from outside your home, inside. ‘Tis the season to hunt & gather. Just look around you! Mix it up for something that is truly your own look & cannot be duplicated! Beautifully colored leaves, pine cones, pumpkins, cotton, trees branches – the list goes on! Group things together for more of a visual impact.

2. Your serving table can be both functional & creative. Any shape, any size. I love what a table represents & brings together…friends, family, co-workers, & sometimes people you don’t even know! I also love layers & when it comes to tablescapes – I really love layers! Find interesting serving pieces to prop your goodies on for displaying all your hard work in the kitchen!

3. Have fun with it. Things shouldn’t feel stuffy. If you want to dine outside, do it! Even if it means taking your grandmother’s China outside…it can be beautiful there as well! Unexpected and perfect!

4. Don’t sweat the small stuff. If you don’t have time to bake a cake, pick one up…hopefully it has a seasonal flair to it. You don’t always have to have an elaborate floral centerpiece…Pick up loose stems from the market or along the roadside.

5. A personal favorite for me, is splurging on the napkins. I think people feel much more welcomed if they have a pretty napkin to wipe away their crumbs. Have it monogrammed with your initials or a seasonal icon to help set the tone. Plus, it’s much more eco friendly since you can toss them in the wash afterwards!

6. Stay in theme. Everything should feel cohesive. From the color palette to the menu. If it’s fall, do all the pumpkin spice things! If it’s summer, break out the margarita machine!
