A Coastal Florida Beach Home with Pops of Color

This coastal Florida beach home isn’t afraid of a pop of color! In fact, designer Lisa Flake of Caldwell Flake Interiors describes her aesthetic as just that; clean and white with pops of color. So, she had her dreamboat client when getting to design this Alys Beach stunner. She accented the crisp and clean bones – white walls, neutral linens – with metallics and shades of turquoise to mimic the sea. It’s charming and elegant, and exactly where we would want to spend a weekend away! Read on for our chat with Lisa about the space as you take it all in thanks to Heather Durham Photography!

How would you describe your design aesthetic?

I am a designer who loves symmetrical, white, clean spaces with pops of color. I like a WOW in every room!

Tell us a little about this beautiful home! What was the inspiration behind its design?

Alys Beach is one of my favorite places on earth and the lineup of all white houses lends its self perfectly to an all white interior. I am obsessed with the white Venetian plaster walls. I knew we wanted to use lots of soft blues and turquoise on the main level mixed with whites. Then, as we went upstairs we let each child select the colors for their bedrooms.

Do you have a favorite room?

My favorite room is Mary Louise’s bedroom with the pop of orange! I ordered that chandelier from CB2 and had it painted orange once I had selected the fabrics. I also love the orange fringe on the drapes.. it’s called Big Honker Fringe.

We love all the pops of color in the otherwise neutral space – what’s your best advice for incorporating color into a room?

I like to incorporate color in each room and repeat it a few times. I love crisp design and so I usually tend to design around white, but I always think something is missing until I throw a little color in! I just can’t help myself.

Everything from the furniture to the Architecture is so gorgeous! Where do you start in the design process?

I usually start by meeting with the client and deciding colors and styles they like or don’t like. Pictures speak a 1000 words, so I ask them to show me some samples of things they love on a Pinterest board or in magazine clippings. I then select several schemes for each room so the client can pick a direction. Sometimes we will use all the fabrics in a scheme, and sometimes we find one fabric we are obsessed with and take it in a different direction. I want it to be obvious that I have been there but I want the house to be theirs!!

What did you love most about designing this property?

My favorite part of this project was working with a great friend in a beautiful vacation area, because we combined work with pleasure. I also loved having such great architecture to work with.
