Intimate + Neutral Destination Wedding in Cancun

Think tropical, green, and oceanside. These are the vibes we are getting from this gorgeous destination wedding in Cancun on our wedding blog today. The couple are world travelers, so it was only appropriate that they brought their loved ones along on an adventure far away for their special day. The bride wanted a timeless wedding with a tropical touch, so she opted for a neutral color palette and florals to give the classic wedding a modern twist. The newlyweds said “I do” in a rooftop ceremony at Dreams Resort Playa Mujeres and danced the night away next to crashing waves at their reception on the sand. Below, photographer Abigail Thomas shares more intimate details and beautiful photographs from the perfect day.

Bianca and Ryan are world-travelers with a passion for seeing new things (he proposed in Amsterdam!), so when it came time to plan their wedding, a destination wedding was a no-brainer. When I asked her why she was so drawn to planning a wedding outside of the US, she told me, “Ryan and I love to travel, so a destination wedding felt perfect for us. We wanted to bring our family and friends on an adventure and weekend we hope they’ll never forget. Some of our guests had never even left the country so it was pretty cool to help get some of our loved ones out of their comfort zones and come away with us to Mexico.”

They decided on the picturesque Dreams Playa Mujeres resort, and held their ceremony on a rooftop terrace overlooking the ocean. Their reception was held on the beach under the stars, with the sounds of the waves accompanying the music for their first dance. They decided to play up the tropical theme of the day, but also kept the details and color scheme neutral to ensure it would be a classic style for years to come. I asked Bianca what her favorite design detail of the day was, and she said, “Personally, I loved everything about our wedding. It was perfect, but I definitely had a lot of fun playing up the tropical theme and our neutral color scheme. I was able to incorporate a lot of the same tropical print from the invitations to the small details of the wedding, such as napkins, ceremony cards, table numbers, and welcome bags.”

Bianca and Ryan both said that their favorite part of their wedding was how intimate it was, and how they were able to spend the entire weekend with the ones they love in celebration of their union.
