Black Tie Destination Wedding in Cabo

When we think of Cabo, our mind immediately goes to vibrant colors, picturesque scenery, and, well, margaritas ;). This couple took a black tie approach to the beautiful locale with classic style, white roses, soft pink details, and yes, margaritas! We can’t get enough of Josh & Ashley’s contagious smiles or the stunning setting where they say ‘I Do’ all captured beautifully by Natalie Schutt Photography! Their love story is just as beautiful, spanning 9 years and multiple cities and states. Below, the bride shares how it came to fruition at their black tie destination wedding in Cabo and more special details from the day.

The bride shares…

We had been dating for 9 years on our wedding day. Josh & I (Ashley) spent 4 years doing long distance between Northern California and Texas, where I was completing my second degree at Texas A&M University (you’ll see our A&M rings in the wedding pictures, it ties a lot of our story together!). We were so dedicated to each other — Josh would even fly out to attend date parties at our beloved college! We eventually both moved to SoCal, and we were so happy to finally be together!

After falling in love with our little place in Newport Beach, Josh’s dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in Dec of 2015. Because family is a number one priority for both of us, we decided to both move back to Texas shortly after. After an emotional but short battle with cancer, Josh’s dad passed in March of 2016. We decided it was God’s plan to get us back to Texas – so we stayed and bought our home in June 2016. The grieving process is still underway, but planning and experiencing our incredible wedding day has made life together- just us- so much more real and important. Life is so short it should be celebrated!

We had both always wanted a Springtime, black tie, and fun destination wedding ever since we had begun talking about marriage! After exploring the idea of several destinations, Cabo Del Sol came to mind. I instantly knew it was the place for our 2017 wedding and prayed for availability for our time frame and party size! We had 12 bridesmaids & 10 groomsmen – we were bringing the whole entire black tie wedding to Cabo! 🙂 The venue also had a golf course, which was special to us. Josh is a golf-lover and we spent many hours on golf courses everywhere with his dad. Josh even went out to the golf course before the ceremony by himself and asked a golfer if he could borrow his club & take a swing before he got married. The photographers got a shot of it, and Josh turned around in disbelief, shocked at how long and perfect his drive was! His dad was definitely there in spirit.

We were also blown away by the venue’s beauty and ability to fulfill our dream venue (beautiful ocean view backdrop with a rocky coastline, all while saying our vows on a beautiful green lawn – and that beautiful flower arch! It was perfect!). The terrain and scenery of Cabo also helped us feel like we brought a little of our time together in CA with us to Cabo, as the desert terrain with the ocean is very similar to SoCal! We grew so much in our time together in SoCal and Cabo took us back to those times!

Our wedding was amazing, and we both truly feel so blessed to have been given each other! Our Cabo wedding was a celebration of life well-lived & of life soon-to-be lived with all our close friends and family, it was the best thing we could have asked for.
