The 4 Biggest Bridal Trends We Saw at NYBFW F/W 27

New York Bridal Fashion Week never disappoints, and this season we saw the next biggest bridal trends take shape. Between the cathedral runways, candlelit salons, and showroom appointments, a few ideas kept popping up again and again, and honestly, we’re obsessed. If you’re a bride shopping for your gown this year or an industry pro trendforecasting, these are the four trends we can’t stop thinking about.

Black Accents

Who says a bridal look has to be all white? This season, designers had fun with pops of black, and the result was chic, editorial, and so fashion-forward. Sareh Nouri set the tone with a collection fittingly named “Love in Black and White,” including one of her most talked-about gowns finished with a velvet black bow at the waist. WONA leaned all the way in with striking black-and-white gowns, and Galia Lahav’s presentation gave us a black-and-white polka dot dress that went instantly viral. Together, these designers pushed the limits of traditional bridal, and we’re here for it. If you love a non-traditional moment, this is your trend.

Detachable Capes

In the era of brides wanting multiple looks, designers answered with two-look gowns built around detachable capes. Perfect for a modest ceremony followed by a lively after-party, this is the look we predict will be taking over the wedding industry. WONA gave us a sculptural, pearl-studded capelet layered over sheer lace sleeves and a sleek column skirt, giving major Jackie O. vibes. Kristie Romanos, showing at her very first market, made quite the debut with a high-neck lace topper covered in delicate 3D florals and paired with a dreamy cathedral veil. For the trendy bride, Lihi Hod sent out a floor-length satin cape that flowed over a satin slip. And Hera Couture elevated a classic lace ballgown with a sheer cape that felt so romantic and modern.

Hip Structure

Move over cinched waists; the hip is the new focal point, and designers were playing with volume in the most unexpected ways. We saw an oversized satin bow blooming off the hips of a mermaid gown and flowing into a dramatic train from House of Idan, a bubble peplum on a textured strapless silhouette from Guillermo Pharis, and gathered drapes framing a corset bodice from Eden Aharon. Nicole + Felicia even went full glam with a beaded halter column finished with a feathered hip fringe. It’s sculptural, it’s editorial, and it photographs beautifully.

Halter Necklines

The halter neckline is officially having its bridal moment, and it caught our eye because there’s truly a version for every bride, whether romantic or minimalist. Alena Leena gave the halter a soft, flirty twist with a sweetheart corset bodice and a flowing lace A-line skirt, while Eden Aharon set a structured corseted halter atop a voluminous lace ballgown for a look fit for a cathedral. For the cool-girl bride, Jenny Yoo’s cowl-neck satin halter slip served up the ultimate 90s minimalism. And Berta proved this neckline can be just as dramatic as it is sleek with a plunging lace halter ballgown.
