Modern Smoke Mural Nursery for a Baby Boy

Boy! Do we have a treat for you on our baby blog today! Erica, founder & artist at 10.11 Makeup and mom of 3 beautiful boys, is sharing her baby’s modern smoke mural nursery. She designed the room to be adventurous, cool, and stylish, of course! And she sure did deliver. The statement making design features a smoke mural on one wall and a gallery wall (like you haven’t seen before) on another. Does she know how to decorate a boy’s room, or what?!

Erica says, Asher’s room was the most fun I have had decorating. It is probably my favorite room in our house! For our reveal and baby announcement we used a smoke bomb to show the color of the sex. So, I really wanted to somehow continue that inspiration through to Asher’s room design.

I knew I wanted some kind of statement when you walk into the room, and felt like it should come from the wall. We ordered the wall mural from Pixersize, finding the design by searching the word “smoke.” It applied just like wallpaper. To compliment the statement of that wall, we decided to fill the opposite wall with photos and artwork, as well as a mixture of metals and textured frames. I knew it could be amazing, but was worried it might feel too busy… However, I absolutely love how it came out!

The crib, which has survived all three boys, I love because it has such clean lines. A similar one can be found similar here – a much more modern and cute version 🙂

We chose our bedding and our diaper changing cover from Woolf With Me. She offers customized sheets (I also have a sheet that says “Asher Raen”), and her patterns/designs are soooo good.

Our “mobile” is a chime from Anthropogie, and no longer available, but I found this similar one with a similar feel. This one and this one from Anthropologie are also super cute. I knew I didn’t want a traditional mobile and it is one of my favorite decor items in the entire room with all its texture and layers. My hubs was a little unsure of how funky it was, but was a believer when he saw how good it looked against the dark wall.

Most of the decor on our shelving came from Target! The skull (similar here), the “ok” by Oh Joy, and the Geometric marble bookends (no longer available but same feeling here). Also from Target, the two copper Geometric pieces, the cement potted plants, and the cement exposed lights.

I wanted a modern rocker, so I found an Eames -type rocker on Amazon. We accented it with an Ikea standing light, and RugsUSA rug (a complete steal from the 70% off section). I accented the chair with a faux fur from IKEA and one of Oh Joy’s adorable pillows. A few amazing Ross finds include the side table as well as the fake cactus. My Uncle created the custom wood carving of “ASHER.” The basket (overflowing with blankets) is from Target.

I am, admittedly, weirdly obsessed with whales. So, the adorable “Oh Whale” onesie was gifted to me by and from Theo & Levi. The gold whale dish was a gift from Target as well.

We chose to mix metals throughout the entire room because I couldn’t decide which metal I wanted to use. Jesi Haack could not have gifted me a more perfect gift! The ginormous light-up “A” she found at HomeGoods, and then spray-painted rose gold, became the focal point of that wall. We selected frames to coordinate that were brass, copper, and gold, in addition to white frames with both wooden and textured accents.

The artwork inside the frames are a mixture of purchased art as well as my husbands designs. The animal prints are from Lila and Lola (and her shop here). I am obsessed with, and literally laugh every time I see the Alpaca…every time! I really wanted the wall to be fun, full adventure, and show phrases that would speak life. Mission accomplished.

Our dresser is from Ikea, which we hacked by adding rose gold pulls from Amazon. I seriously own three of that dresser (yes, they are all bolted to the wall) and we have stylized them each differently. You can see our bedroom featured here, has midcentury legs added.
