Inspired by Eyelet-Happy Spring!

Having lived in California my whole life, where some might say we are deprived of the four seasons, I have come to embrace the changing fashion rather than the leaves or snow. I love when its time to layer and add tights for the fall and also when the fabrics become lighter, less constructed and more whimsical for the spring and summer. One of my standout fabric favorites for such time is eyelet. Its so feminine but not at all too dressy. Its just the fabric you want to made a dress out of and spend a barefooted day at the beach in, or maybe at a picnic. You want  to be outdoors, soaking up all of the sunshine and natural goodness. I love how the images below show so many  different uses of lovely eyelet.  As we are forecasted to enjoy another week in the mid 70′s and it is now officially spring I encourage you all to go out and get yourself some eyelet.

884292698105_0_ALB[1]I am a firm believer that all cute things are even cuter when they are mini. Natalie Wilbur from The Dotted Apron obviously shares my sentiments, as mini desserts are her bread and butter! Not only are her decadent mini donuts and pies adorable, but they are absolutely delicious perfect little bite size morsels.

Natalie has a long history working in catering in the Southern California area (both at the Ritz-Carlton and the Four Seasons Hotel companies) and has only in the past few years branched out to pursue her own venture. It’s been so exciting to see her become an overnight success. The Dotted Apron was born long before Natalie was of legal hiring age. Her grandmother introduced her to baking with “real” ingredients, like cream and real butter, and her mother continued to encourage Natalie’s talent by always fostering her love of cooking.

Along with baking all of the goodies, Natalie and her team set up the poshest displays that seamlessly flow with the other design elements of any wedding or event. Her bridal shower tea parties are some of my favorites. Beyond her talent and creativity, Natalie is such a warm and friendly person. She is just as sweet as her pastries! Natalie shares that she is inspired by, “The child inside of me. The child whose eyes light up at a jar of candy, scoop of ice cream, and a Ferris wheel. I look to those simple things for inspiration, hoping that by recreating a bit of childhood, others will light up too.”

Be sure to check out all of Natalie’s recent work on her blog!
