How to Care for Flowers at Home

There’s something about having fresh flowers at home, or in the office, that always brightens our day! We’ve made a habit of picking up fresh bunches or ordering our favorite flowers online so we can always have something pretty around. It’s finally that time of year when so many of our favorite blooms are in season (hello Peonies!), so we partnered with online floral wholesaler FiftyFlowers to put together the best tips on how to care for flowers at home. Follow these steps, and your blooms will stay fresh and beautiful longer, making them totally worth the investment.

1. As soon as you get your flowers home, either from the store or from your online order, start prepping them right away for your vase.

2. Remove any foliage that will fall below the waterline, give the stems a fresh cut (taking about one inch off the bottom), and immediately place in fresh, clean, and cool water.

3. Replace the water in your vase every two days, or if you see the water starting to get cloudy. Whenever you change the water, give the stems a fresh cut, too!

4. As the flowers begin to fade, remove any stems that are wilted, and rearrange the remaining stems.

  1. Thank you! I had no idea changing the water and cutting the stems every 2 days would help!
