A DIY Geometric Wall Mural with BEHR Paint

Recently, we’ve been really into statement walls… But they aren’t just for nurseries and offices – NO! You can (and should) make space for statement walls in all areas of your home. We had a totally blank wall in our living/dining area, which, to be honest, we were having a difficult time determining what to do with. So, we partnered with Behr to fill it with an awesome DIY geometric wall mural!

Thanks to some pin-spiration and a talented friend, the project started coming to life in our minds and we couldn’t wait to execute it. First of all, though, we needed to paint the space white! Doesn’t everyone love white walls these days? We used Behr‘s Color Selection Tools found on the Behr Color Studio to choose BEHR PREMIUM PLUS® Interior Paint & Primer in One in “White 52”. Previously, the walls in our living area were a yellowish-cream. Meanwhile, the aesthetic of the space is bohemian with a little bit of mid-century modern thrown in, so it just didn’t mix. We wanted the room to be bright and welcoming. Plus, we wanted the new, colorful wall mural to truly pop! So, White 52 it was!

We chose the Behr Premium Plus Paint in an eggshell finish for durability since the room is in a high-traffic area of our home. The finished product was amazing. It covered the prior ‘yellowish’ color with ease and dried beautifully.

Now, it was time to execute the mural. With the recruited help of a friend, Franki, (any DIY is more fun with a friend!!), we started to pull colors that would match the decor in the space and also flow together well. We chose “Confetti P570-2” as the focal color. Then, we went to The Home Depot® to pick out a few accent colors using paint chips. We knew we wouldn’t need too much of any other color for the mural, so we were able to just pick out samples of the paints we liked. This was so simple (and created much less waste!). We settled on a dusty pink called M160-2 Taffy Twist, bright marigold called P270-5 Fuzzy Duckling, Off White 73, MQ6-11 Mossy Bench, P230-4 Citrus Punch, and P160-5 Pinkadelic. Can you tell we like color?

Although, the Paint Your Place® tool on the Color Studio gives a great and realistic picture of what the paint looks like in a room, we highly recommend picking up a sample in stores – or ordering one online – no matter what you’re painting. You never know how the color will truly match with other paint already in your home, and a lot of how it appears depends on the lighting in the room too. Plus, if you are torn between multiple colors, samples are a great way to make up your mind!

We then taped off a geometric pattern, consisting of large triangles with smaller triangles within and around them. We promise, this was easier to do than it looks! But it didn’t hurt that there were two of us :). As a team, we could achieve straight lines and correct measurements far easier than if we tried this on our own! Next, it was time for the fun part – paint! We started by painting a large triangle in our favorite shade – ‘Confetti’. From there, we followed our creativity and picked different triangles to paint in the colors we picked out.

Thankfully, the paint dried super quickly, so we were able to tape-off, and un-tape new sections without worrying about it coming off or running together. And soon enough, the mural started becoming complete! It was so much fun to watch it come together!

In case you couldn’t tell, we took just as much pride & joy in working on this DIY, as we now do in the finished project. We couldn’t be happier with the result, and knowing we brought it to life from initial concept to final product, all thanks to a few gallons of paint, is so rewarding. Now, we have our very own fun & fabulous accent wall!
