Boho Meets Glam in this Oceanfront Wedding

If you have ever seen a Boho Meets Glam wedding then you know the two themes when combined can result in a stunning design. Today’s wedding is no different, in fact, it is done so well that we can almost guarantee you are going to love it just as much as we did. If you need more to convince you then look no further because not only is this wedding as beautiful as can be but we get to share a Q+A with the couple itself!

Read on for a Q + A from the couple,

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day? Our original wedding plans didn’t quite go as planned due our venue canceling on us a month out due to Covid, but we wouldn’t have changed a thing. We last minute found a breathtaking house located on the beach in Malibu and thankfully most of our vendors were so accommodating in moving the wedding North from San Diego. Colleen has never been a fan of traditional and structured weddings, so a small intimate wedding with our closest family and friends is exactly what we wanted all along.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?

We went with a modern boho theme with blush pink and neutral tones. Our venue was breathtaking on its own so, we kept it more simple with decor and had our florist put together a couple large arrangements that were used for the ceremony and reception. The two arrangements were set on top of two clear acrylic pillars to replace our arbor and then were place in front of our sweetheart table.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

My florist was absolutely amazing and captured everything I dreamed of. I found her through Instagram and after looking over her work I knew I could put my full trust in her to make my boho wedding vision come true. She used a combination of blush and toffee colored roses, phalaenopsis orchids, black eyed delphiniums, dried palms, and pampas grass. My bouquet was simply breathtaking and she also made the most unique boutonnieres for the guys and corsages for the mothers.

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
Cole and I both love house music and knew we wanted tropical house playing during our cocktail hour. On Instagram we came across a video of an amazing sax player playing our favorite song, Jubel, and reached out to him. It was magical having Jason playing the sax, overlooking Malibu coast, during sunset.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
Let’s just start off by mentioning I am very picky. I knew I didn’t want a traditional looking dress and, bless my sweet mothers soul, we went to at least 7 bridal boutiques in the one weekend she was out visiting until we finally found the one! My dress was by Calla Blanche and I let my two Maids of Honor choose their dresses, they just had to be blush pink. My husband hand picked his suit material from Tru Tailor and was very happy with the custom tailoring.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

We met Memorial Day Weekend, 2015, in Rocky Point, Mexico. Colleen was on vacation with a group of friends and I was vacationing with my family. If you’ve ever been to Rocky Point, you know the vacation is not complete without AT LEAST one trip to Mary’s. Colleen and her friends were at the table next to ours and we began to talking. My best man, Ian MacMillan, was a part of Colleen’s group and invited me to join them for the rest of the weekend and I happily obliged. I saw Colleen once before up in Flagstaff, AZ, but didn’t get the chance to talk to her and I wouldn’t make that mistake again. We immediately began talking and hit it off over our mutual love for traveling, fitness, and the outdoors. It wasn’t long after that we started dating. About a year into our relationship, we had the idea to quit their jobs and embark on an epic six-month backpacking trip through Southeast Asia and the South Pacific. As you could imagine, the trip was one of a lifetime. Fast forward to 2017. Colleen and I returned from our trip and moved in together. That Christmas we welcomed the sweetest little boy to the family, Sir Charles the Doodle, aka Charlie. A little back story about us- our birthdays are only 9 days apart. Both loving to travel, we go on trips each year to celebrate our birthdays instead of exchanging gifts. This year’s trip was to British Columbia, Canada, specifically, Banff National Park (the Canadian Rockies). This year’s trip would be a little different, because our families were set to join in on the adventure. Our families spent the whole week together hiking and taking in the incredible views. June 11th, 2019, I woke Colleen up at 5:45 am to “take family pictures”. She was not too ecstatic about waking up so early to drive to Vermilion Lake for pictures, but that quickly changed. She was in complete shock when I got down on one knee at the end of the dock to “pop the question”. Side note: I am terrible at surprises, so for me to pull this off was pretty amazing! Surrounded by our families, the “random” camera guy in the bushes, and the beautiful Canadian Rockies, she said Yes!
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Colleen: Definitely walking down the aisle with my dad and looking up to see Coles tear filled eyes.  It was almost as if time had stopped and it was just Cole and I. Cole: I’d have to say it was our first look. I knew there was no way that I would have kept it together if the first time her was walking down the isle. I’m glad we did the first look, because I was able to fully take in the first time seeing my WIFE and spend those first intimate moments together.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Do what YOU want for your wedding. As cliché as it sounds your wedding day is the best day of your life and it FLIES by so freaking fast! Invite who you want there (including your dog), have a saxophonist playing tropical house music during cocktail hour, and jump in the pool in your expensive wedding dress and tux- it’s your guys day, do what makes you the happiest!

Did you love this wedding just as much as we did?! Let us know in the comments what your favorite elements are!
