Blooming Love Events gives us the details behind the magic of this floral-filled first birthday,

Fei and Hang were one of my lovely client couples. I had the pleasure of bringing their dream wedding to life in 2016. Their wedding is still a favorite of mine, and Fei and I have since become good friends. So when Fei asked me to plan a luncheon for her daughter Alice’s 1st birthday, I was bursting with excitement. She wanted a unique location – intimate and relaxing yet beautiful and elegant. I immediately thought of Summerfields Country House. It features 50 acres of olive groves, rolling pastures, and gardens tucked away just an hour’s drive from the city. After months of COVID-19 lockdown, we all felt like we needed a breather. Having the birthday luncheon at such a stunning location was a bit of a getaway for Fei’s family and all their guests.

The initial color palette was inspired by the lilac flowers along the driveway, which would be in full bloom by the event. The chosen palette included lilac, blush, soft pink, and cream — all very pastel and girly, perfect for a baby girl’s 1st birthday. However, as I started piecing together the rest of the event decor, I felt like something was missing. Some refreshing and uplifting colors to brighten up the creamy undertone of the dining room where needed. I added pastel yellow, pale peach, and even coral to the original palette to make it brighter, whimsical, and cheerful.

As the celebration prep continued…

Everything came together just ten days before the celebration like it was meant to be. Luckily my fantastic florist Ivy & Eve Flowers could cater to the change and sourced the most beautiful seasonal blooms and foliage from local growers and worked her magic. The arrangements included garden roses, hydrangeas, scabiosa, cosmos, and delphiniums. The lush florals on the backdrop of the cake display were a showstopper, and the centerpieces on the table were so vibrant and organic, each one beautiful and unique in its own way.

The main focal point of the dining room was the birthday cake display. I designed a ‘semi-open’ backdrop that would allow the light to filter gently through the gorgeous French windows. Fei was not a fan of balloon garlands, so I opted for floral décor. Arden Events provided the pink half arch panel, plinth, and flower-clad gold frame. This was finished by a gold metallic decal that says “Alice is One,” designed by State of Elliott.

Finally,

Nobody Hates Cake created the most exquisite cake with delicate wafer paper flowers that mimic petals, adding watercolor strokes of lilac, pastel yellow, and gold leaf for a touch of fun. The tablescape was complemented with napkins and gold cutlery from Lusso Event Hire, tablecloths from Table Art, blush oval personalized menus by State of Elliott, and candles from Botanical Melbourne. Although there was no distinct ‘theme,’ I loved every detail of this event design, especially with the gorgeous photos captured by Lena Lim Photography.

Fei and Hang booked the venue for their exclusive use, so it felt like everything took place at home. After the luncheon, they took Alice for a stroll to enjoy the picturesque estate and capture the magic of the day with a family portrait. With more than four years of marriage and a beautiful daughter, they were still so passionate about each other and couldn’t wipe the smile off their faces. I’ve never seen new parents kissing and cuddling so much at their little one’s first birthday – it was a pleasure to witness. This incredible day was not just the celebration of their daughter’s first birthday but a celebration of their love as a couple.
