Day of the Dead Dinner Party

This Day of the Dead party on our lifestyle blog today not only incorporates traditional celebratory details, but also flower crown making! Skulls have never looked so chic then they do in the middle of these fall hued floral arrangements and in pure white sugar on the place settings! Fittingly, chips and guacamole, quesadillas, and ONEHOPE Wine kept the guests happy while they mingled and made the most dainty, marigold flower crowns! The girls from ONEHOPE were nice enough to show us how to make them! Here’s what she had to say about the festive dinner!
In anticipation of the holiday, I was so excited to host a Day of the Dead party that incorporated vibrant colors, traditional florals, and of course, delicious wine in amber-toned goblets. Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is a widely celebrated holiday in Mexican culture where loved ones who have passed on are remembered and recognized.
I wanted to keep a dark color palette with bright pops of color, so we used a lot of black and relied on gold accents and the glow from the candles to set the tone. This color scheme allowed for all of the florals to really stand out on the table! Traditional elements such as authentic sugar skulls, Mexican serapes, and marigolds brought an authentic style to the party. 
We had so much fun pouring wine, eating delicious Mexican food, and getting creative with our floral crowns! And what kind of party is complete without a floral crown photo shoot at the end?


• Marigolds, Dahlias, Wax Flower
• Green Florist tape
• Gold Washi Tape
• 16 gauge straight wire
• Bonsai Shears
1. Take the flowers and cut the stems to about 2-3″ in length. We focused on highlighting marigolds in honor of the holiday and added some warm, complementary blooms for variety. 
2. Measure the wire to the circumference your head and simply twist the ends together. Make sure the ends don’t stick out, as the wire will be resting on your head. We decided to wrap our wire with gold washi tape. 
3. Now time for the fun part! Start with the largest bud and use your floral tape to secure it to your crown. Then build around it with your favorite cluster of florals. You can always tape the smaller clusters together with the floral tape before securing to the crown. Feel free to mix and match colors & textures! We decided to keep ours asymmetrical and wild instead of a traditional, even halo.
