Grey, Green and White Malibu Wedding

This grey, green and white Malibu wedding takes place at a stunning venue overlooking the ocean. And while the view speaks for itself, Alissa Hussey helped the couple bring in plenty of beautiful decor to accentuate it. They kept the color palette simple to not take away from the scenery, but rather feel like it was meant to be there. This included a ceremony display made up of florals along the ground, tables dressed in grey, and white umbrellas & twinkle lights overhead. Isn’t it beautiful?!

Coordinator, Alissa Hussey, describes the wedding inspiration in detail saying…

The venue really dictated what a lot of the design and overall look would be – a backyard wedding with a stunning view of the Southern California coast! For the bride and groom that meant a casual and intimate, yet chic, wedding that had a relaxed outdoor feel and wasn’t rustic.

I worked with Sarah and Fredrik to help develop a design that fit their location and the idea of a casual outdoor wedding. With a lot of Fred’s family coming from Norway, they wanted their guests to enjoy the best of what California has to offer – sunshine and beautiful ocean views.

Based on the outdoor theme, I picked a grey, green, and white color palette. I sent them a mood board and they added bits of blush. We talked about adding in lots of textural greens like olive leaves, eucalyptus, and herbs. Sarah really wanted to do wood tables, but the budget didn’t allow for it. However, when we did the tabletop sample with a grey linen, we all realized how perfect it was – the grey linen softened the landscape and made the florals pop!

Sarah’s mom happens to be a graphic designer, which came in handy in a lot of places! She made all of the printed materials, which had a leaf pattern that carried throughout the wedding. Sarah’s mom also helped make a super cute escort card set up with wood crates and real plants/flowers. They reused a “find your seat” cutout sign from another friend’s wedding and attached it onto an acrylic sheet that would allow it to be freestanding and lean against a tree in the yard.

Another important element to Fred and Sarah was having things for guests to do during cocktail hour and throughout the reception. Instead of the traditional guest book, they had guests play and sign an oversized Jenga game. They also had a beautifully made custom corn hole game with their names and wedding date and the same leaf pattern.

When guests entered the reception space, they were greeted with overhead twinkle lights, lush garden florals, and wooden lanterns. Sarah and Fred are beer lovers, and had their own beer bar which featured some of their favorite brews on tap! They also had ‘his’ and hers’ cocktails with names that fit within the oceanside theme. They closed out the night dancing away to Miley Cyrus’s “Malibu” which was only fitting! And guests sent the bride and groom off with a bubble send off into the night!
