An Eco-Friendly Garden Wedding in La Jolla, CA

Spring is a beautiful time for a wedding in San Diego! Well, really any time is a good time for a wedding in San Diego. But this one took everything we love about the season like brightly colored blooms and paired them with sustainable choices for a beautiful garden inspired eco-friendly wedding. The color palette made up of pinks, blues, and greenery was designed by Nicole George Events to accentuate the already beautiful venue. With just a few pops of color, additional florals place throughout the lush space, and personal details to reflect the couple’s heritage, it came together perfectly. Read on to discover more of the bride & groom’s inspiration for their big day and how Nicole and her team brought it to life.

Eco-Friendly Wedding, Wedding in La Jolla

Event Planner and designer Nicole George, shares…

I started working with Shannon and Phil at the very beginning of their engagement to help execute and design their coastal garden wedding at Brian Malarkey’s eclectic hidden gem, Green Acre Restaurant in La Jolla, California. The first of many sustainable and environmentally conscious planning decisions, Shannon and Phil chose Green Acre for its literal farm to table culinary experience and the venue’s impeccable in-house design.

The coastal meets modern design of their eco-friendly wedding centralized on keeping the ambiance lighthearted, cozy, and intentional. It was important to Shannon and Phil to minimize their environmental footprint, so designing their ceremony in the venue’s own vegetable garden, and reception inside the restaurant’s industrial and eclectic indoor space allowed us to keep our design chic and cozy, while complementing the natural landscape of San Diego. Shannon and Phil’s love for the ocean played a key role in the design as well. You will see pops of blue, grey, and green throughout their day as well as ocean currant maps on all (recycled, of course!) paper goods. It was a cute little ode to something deeply important to them, which I absolutely loved! Shannon’s admiration of bright colors made a statement as well. What Spring wedding isn’t complete without some vibrant garden roses?! Add in some natural textures and tones (hello mis-matching wooden tables and chairs!) and our vision of an eclectic coastal celebration came to life.

Last but not least, choosing St. Patrick’s Day was an intentionally special choice in celebrating both Shannon and Phil’s strong Irish family traditions. The theme tastefully peeks through in their wedding design from the engraved Irish Coffee mugs to the specialty cocktails, and finally with an Irish mural we had created just for their day! Phil even had Green Acre’s chef recreate his grandmother’s own Soda Bread recipe! Add in a band and (Irish) toasts that knocked your socks off, and this St. Patrick’s Day wedding was one for the books!
