Pool Style from Brighton the Day

She’s smart, she’s stylish, she’s sassy and we’re kind of obsessed. Brighton Keller of Brighton the Day gives us poolside dressing dos and don’ts but mainly dos! Her style is all but simple and literally does brighten the day with color and looks that shout “happy!” I mean that bright pink bow bandeau is the cutest!  Hear it from her on what makes her blog fun, different, and how it all began!

Your name is so cute, you pretty much had to be a blogger! 😉 What made you decide to start Brighton the Day?

If you would have told me a few years ago that I would one day start a fashion blog – where I take pictures of myself in outfits and post them all over the internet, claiming to know what I’m talking about (ha!) – I would have literally laughed in your face. Fashion couldn’t be the furthest thing from my mind in college and when envisioning my future career.

I majored in Business Honors & Accounting at UT Austin, was interested in computer science and management information systems, and ended up accepting a job with PriceWaterhouseCoopers out of college. Yeah, pretty crazy I’m now working full time in the fashion industry as CFO for my mom’s shoe line (Dee Keller Design) and writing BrightonTheDay (a fashion-filled blog) on the side! It kind of makes me laugh/smile every time I think about it! So I’m sure you’re wondering, how on earth to connect the dots?

Well, it’s simple really. When I was a senior in college (like a month before I graduated), my mom decided to start her own business. And long story short, along came my little fashion blog to help promote (or try to) her and her new shoe line (…after several failed attempts to contact already-existing bloggers.)

How would you describe your every day style?  Does that have to change when you’re at your 9-5 job?

This is always kind of a hard question for me because I think my every day style changes – almost every day! But if I had to sum it up in a few words I’d say colorful, classy and snappy (or sassy, depending on the day). When I worked at PwC, I had to definitely alter my sense of style to be appropriate for the corporate world but I will say I definitely STILL stood out from the rest 😉 My colors were always a little brighter, prints a little wilder, and baubles a little less traditional and a little more spunky!

While work may not stop for the summer (sad), it does mean that weekends are filled with beach and pool days! What are your style go-to’s for the pool?

I really love spending lazy days at the pool. Some of my favorite things to sport are monogram hats (monogram anything really!), party skirts, oversized cover ups, and bright colored lips or nails! All of these things can easily spice up a simple swimsuit.

How do you accessorize without going over the top for pool days?

I don’t. I probably go over the top. And I love it. #SorryNotSorry 😉
