Safari Kids Room from Sweet Little Peanut

Do you have littles that are officially moving up from their nursery to a “big boy” or “big girl” room!?  Then today’s safari kids room by Sweet Little Peanut is right up your alley!  Megan, one of the editor’s of Sweet Little Peanut, needed to update her little boy’s room to fit his growing lifestyle.  No more crib, more space to play, and (most importantly) a theme with decor that doesn’t look cheap or cheesy!  So Megan enlisted Kirsten Krason from 6th Street Design School to give some suggestions and help out with the big transition!

They started with one piece of inspiration which was the safari animal bed sheets that molded the look and feel of the rest of the decor for this safari kids room. They decided to go with a modern look with white and navy stripes paired with a bit of a rustic safari details. By sticking to the same color scheme as the nursery they were able to keep the wall colors the same and even most of the furniture and just updated the little details. We just love the combination of the stripes with the animals!

One of the ways Kirsten suggested to update the room and give it a more mature feel while still being able to keep some of the furniture was to swap out the rocking chair ottoman for a stylish leather pouf  to give a touch of rustic flair and move away from the nursery look. Add in a new magazine style book shelf to help keep the books organized and few new pillows with fun patterns and this reading corner felt fresh and cozy!  Another great tip is when you are buying furniture for your nursery to buy items that are timeless and can be transitioned from a nursery to a kid room. So choosing items like changing tables that can be turned into dressers is a really smart and convenient move! The storage baskets that once held diapers and blankets now hold toys and books. For display we added in a few old vintage story rhyme books, wooden safari animals and a wooden tree lamp to go along with the theme. To finish off this wall they added a couple of hanging wire globes (one of our favorite pieces) that really brought a fun explorer feel to this space.

This room has an amazing little nook that was the place that once held the crib.  Teepee’s are a big trend right now and we must say we are all on board! Kids love them and they make for a perfect comfy spot for reading!  They added in some plush animals to go along with the safari theme… how amazing is this giant plush giraffe?!
