Thanksgiving is a time to host your family and friends for a cozy dinner at home. Inspired by the must have metal of the year – copper – we wanted to create a warm and inviting celebration that makes guests feel welcome. Jewel tones layered in with the copper to create a rich, fall color palette. The key to creating a sophisticated affair is to balance the amount of copper used – it’s easy to overdo it, but by having copper accents here and there you can create a well balanced look.
Let’s start by the front door – the entrance to your home sets the mood as guests arrive. We created a super easy display of heirloom pumpkins. We started with a copper beverage tub, that was filled with paper and bubble wrap to create a “base”. Next we layered in a blanket scarf (a fall staple!) from ASOS, and topped that with heirloom pumpkins in different sizes, colors and textures. A few hand calligraphed pumpkins from Laura Hooper Calligraphy finished things off.
Any dinner party must have a well styled table. A textured grey linen created a neutral backdrop to layer some color and texture. Most Thanksgiving dinners are served family style, this allows you to layer the plates at each place setting so guests can serve themselves. We paired a copper metal charger with a simple stoneware dinner plate, last one of our favorite details, a bronze metal leaf plate on top. Amber glassware finished the setting, and a mini-Moscow mule mug served as the guests place card. Copper can pair nicely with silver or gold, but in this case we loved the warmth and richness the gold flatware brought to the table.
For any gathering we always recommend a signature cocktail. Style a bar cart with your favorite serving pieces, the recipe and all of the elements guests need to mix up their own cocktail for effortless entertaining. In keeping with the copper inspiration a Moscow mule makes the perfect Thanksgiving sip.
Just in case you are GOING to a Thanksgiving party and not hosting, don’t forget the perfect hostess gift! A pretty copper wire basket makes the perfect container. We included a dish towel, pumpkin pie soda, Thanksgiving goodies from Laura Hooper Calligraphy, pears and a few pretty pumpkins.
Send guests home with leftovers, which you can jazz up with a little ribbon, sprig of fresh herbs and a pretty label from Laura Hooper Calligraphy. You could also send them home with individual pecan pies for dessert – these were topped with a gold pecan. Easy to DIY at home with a little edible gold applied to a pecan and then attach to a store bought mini-pecan pie.
