Getting Married on Mothers Day Weekend

It’s my wedding week and Mothers Day Weekend and I want to dedicate this post to my mom.

Most of you don’t know this, but my mom is very sick. She was diagnosed with Pick’s disease 8 years ago. She is one of the longest living cases of the illness, but today she doesn’t know who I am. It has been especially hard planning this wedding for the past year without her and since this is the first wedding in our family, we have all been struggling not having mom around. I’m so lucky to have my 2 brothers, my 2 sisters and my dad to support me during this time.

The extra special part is that this is Mother’s Day weekend. Tony and I didn’t even plan it that way when we picked our date, but I know somehow, someway God had a hand in that (just like when I got engaged on my Mom’s birthday- totally unplanned by Tony). I just want to share a few words to her today….

Mom,
I’m getting married! I miss you so much and wish you could be here with me, but I know you will be with me in spirit. I wish you could know Tony the way I do, I know you’d approve of him. He is an amazing man. I will have you in my heart all weekend and hope that I will go into married life with the grace, kindness, selflessness, and unconditional love that you always had with dad and us kids.
Love you Mom and Happy Mothers day,
Leila

  4. Leila,

I love you very much and I can’t believe this day is finally here. Although I only knew your mom after she was sick, I could always tell that she was a very special person in your life and in so many ways I want to thank her because I feel like she played a big part in us being together. From the many stories that I hear of your mother, I know that you have the same grace and energy that she did and that is just one of the many reasons that I fell in love with you.

Leila, thank for being the person that you are. I’m so excited for today.

    Love,
    Your almost husband, Tony

  7. Dear Leila,

The fact that you shared this part of your life with us means so much; I will be praying that you and Tony sense God’s care and pleasure as you make your wedding vows tomorrow. You are showing all of us what is most important in life…the wedding day and the celebration around it, are only meaningful because of the love between the bride and groom, and the family connections which become so tangible on a day of beginning a new life together. You have honored your mom in a way that speaks to all of us, and reminds us to reach out and touch those we love in any way we can, and whenever we can. I know you are surrounded by wonderful friends and family this weekend. I am proud to be one of your friends. Congratulations, Tony and Leila!

  10. Leila,
This was the most touching story I have read to date. I am sure your mom is always with you in spirit and she has giving you and your beloved husband to be her blessings in marriage. May God bless you everyday!
I have two little girls (8 and 3 years old) and have been a cancer patient since 2004 and I pray everyday to be able to grow up along with my daughters and be there with them through every one of there life journeys. You have made my day with your post, hugs to you!

  11. What an inspirational post about your mother, and what a wonderful tribute to her. I know that your wedding was gorgeous, just from the one photo Jessica Claire posted, you could see how stunning and happy you looked! Enjoy your honeymoon in Italy!

  12. Leila,

Hello! We met last year at the Your Wedding Day magazine launch party at Ebell. I was so touched with how warm and friendly you were, and I have truly enjoyed your blog since day one. But this entry is by far my favorite. I am tearing up while reading this. What an amazingly beautiful tribute to your mother. And then I scroll down and see your husband Tony’s entry on your wedding day. OMG…such LOVE!! A hopeless romantic like myself is just eating this up, girl!! 🙂

I am so happy for you. I wish you every happiness in the world! God bless!

  13. Wow Leila…thank you for sharing such a heart-felt post with us before your big day. Such an inspiration to be sure!

On a light note, I just had to say: “Did our Moms get married in the same dress?!?” Oh my gosh…I saw this picture and it brought me back straight to my Mom & Dad’s wedding! I swear this dress and hat, and even the tux remind me of my parent’s wedding! But, I’m sure that’s not as uncommon if they were married close to the same year. 🙂

Congratulations to you both Leila! <3
