A Stunning Big Fat Greek Wedding

This extraordinary big fat Greek wedding, in Corfu, was worth the wait after many setbacks. From the bride’s dream dress(es), to the ceremony next to the water, this is one out of a fairytale! We love the changes of scenery throughout different events at a wedding, and this one is no different. Pulling inspiration from this stunning wedding in Corfu is a no brainer! The pink floral theme, stargaze lights over the pool at the reception, and the breathtaking scenery has us pinning this post for future events. Corfu is certainly on our bucket lists, now!

The bride shares about planning during the pandemic,

“Our big fat Greek wedding finally came to fruition after two and a half years of planning, two date changes, and a location change across the world! We got engaged in Costa Rica a couple months before the pandemic and were ironically planning a relatively short engagement of 9 months. What started as a mountain wedding in Steamboat Springs, Colorado in June of 2020, quickly came to a halt when the pandemic hit. Fast forward to 2021 when we realized covid restrictions were going to result in another postponement. We came to the conclusions that if we have to wait another full year, we should go all out! Which meant to move the wedding from the mountains in Colorado, to the beaches in Greece!

The bride continues,

My mom’s family immigrated from Greece, so it was incredibly special to share our wedding with our friends and family in Corfu. My favorite part of our destination wedding was that everyone was together for a full week. It was so cool seeing friends and family who had never met each other become great friends by the end of the trip.

We had an action packed week that was kicked off with a bachelor/bachelorette celebration the Wednesday before the wedding. The guys had a golf tournament and the girls went on a boat trip around Corfu. It was such a fun way to get everyone pumped up for the week ahead. The following day, we had a welcome party at our hotel, Kontokali Bay Resort & Spa. Our rehearsal dinner was at Royal Bath Mon Repos and was the perfect night of dancing and fun before the big day.”

Wedding highlights,

“Our wedding day began at Villa Sylva, where the entire wedding party hung out and spent the day getting ready. A fun fact about the villa, James Bond (For Your Eyes Only), was filmed there. Our ceremony was at Ypapanti Church, which was my personal highlight of the day. The church is surrounded by water and is hundreds of years old. It felt surreal getting married outside next to the water.

For the reception, we went back to Villa Sylva. The property sits on 10 acres, so guests were able to walk around and explore the grounds before dinner. Greek dancing at the reception was another highlight of the night. The thing I was most excited to do for our wedding, was break plates! Its a tradition commonly done during Greek celebrations and it was an unreal experience.”

The inspiration behind the pink floral theme,

“Our wedding theme was based around my first dress. It was the very first wedding dress I tried on. The second I saw it, I was in love. The pink flowers felt so romantic and ultimately felt like the perfect dress detail for a wedding in Greece. Bougainvillea grows all over Greece and the flowers on my dress reminded me of it so I really wanted to incorporate the pink florals in my stationary and throughout the wedding day. Greece is such a vibrant country, so it felt especially fitting to have a reception filled with pops of magenta and red florals.”
