Colorado Sand Dunes Engagement Photos

We love this engagement session for many reasons, but the fun & vibrant couple has to be one of them. For their Colorado Sand Dunes engagement photos, the duo ran through the sand, flew a kite, and popped champagne! Doesn’t it look like fun?! While you’re panning all the pretty photos, take note of Moriah’s gorgeous Emerald ring! Oh – and the romantic way the pair looks at one another.

Photographer Emily Sacco shares, Moriah and Reed celebrated their engagement at the Great Sand Dunes National Park in Mosca, Colorado. I LOVE how the couple brought along a kite to play with and champagne to drink. Moriah’s ring is a stunning emerald that is just as unique and beautiful as she is. Her bouquet was thoughtfully crafted by Fran from Prema Style. I think the colors are stunning against the soft sand neutrals.

Their engagement story…

I knew that I would propose to Moriah during our trip to Puerto Rico, but I had no idea how I would do it. Moriah has family there that she is very close with, and I had never met. We had planned to spend the first half of the trip with her family, and then set off on our own for the second half. It was a bit nerve-racking from the beginning.

I carried the ring for 4 days and nights while meeting family and exploring the island. Of course, I was terrified of losing the ring, but I didn’t have any specific plan in mind for when or how to propose. I wanted to let the right moment come to us.

Even though we had already been together for five years, seeing Moriah with her family, and in the place that meant so much to her growing up was special. I was seeing her in a slightly different way than I had even seen her before. It was an even more meaningful and intimate trip than I had imagined it would be.

Halfway through our trip we left her family and headed to the island of Vieques to spend the second half of our trip alone together. We spent a couple days on remote beaches, finding amazing local places to eat and drink, and loving life. At the end of one of these perfect days, I was looking at Moriah in my arms. I knew I wanted to propose right then. I got up, put the ring in my pocket, and stepped out of our room onto the beach to collect myself. Moriah stepped outside to join me, and even though I hadn’t found the perfect words in my head just yet I got down on my knee and hoped that my words sounded perfect to her.

From Vieques we went off to another location where we had a suite and private beach. It was one of the most beautiful places either of us had ever seen. We celebrated our engagement and each other for the rest of our time on the island.

P.S. Did you know there are sand dunes in Santa Barbara too? If you’re also dreaming of this beautiful backdrop for your own engagement or anniversary photos, you may not have to travel to Colorado to find it!
