How would you describe the style of your home?

Interior design professionals would describe our house as boho mid-century, but when I think about the style of our house, the words that come to my mind are cozy, peaceful, homey, minimal, desert-inspired and vibrant.

What inspired you to get a second home in Joshua Tree?

I always knew I wanted to buy a vacation home. But after living in San Francisco for a few years, I became even more serious about it. I wanted a peaceful place for my partner and me to escape the craziness of the city. I also have always loved hosting and creating unique experiences for others. So we decided to make our house a vacation retreat for everybody, not just the two of us.

How did you incorporate your love for Joshua Tree into your home decor?

Joshua Tree is the main inspiration for every design decision I made for our house. The design of our door, the wallpapers for the bedrooms, the plants, the wall art, and so many other small touches in the house. I wanted our house to be a desert retreat house, not just any retreat house and I hope we did a good job with that.

Did you have a hard time opening up your home for others to stay at?

Not at all. I love hosting, and nothing brings me more joy than sharing a fun experience with other people. Most of our guests are just like us – busy professionals who are looking for a fun and peaceful getaway. Many of them become more like friends than only guests after staying at our house and getting to know me more through exchanging messages on Airbnb.

If you could offer any advice to people looking into opening a vacation rental, what would it be?

Having a vacation rental is a lot of work! Do it because you love it, not because of the financial opportunity.

What is your favorite room in the house?

I’m obsessed with our master bedroom. When I was living in Joshua Tree (to get our house ready for hosting) I spent a lot of time in that room. I would do my makeup there, read a book or take a selfie for the gram! The lighting is really gorgeous there.

What is the story behind your front door? It’s so chic; we are obsessed with it!

Thank you so much! We love our front door. We wanted a front door that represented the name of our house: Moon & Bloom. We also wanted to incorporate the same colors and textures we used inside of our house. But more than anything, we wanted our front door to be very inviting and a great first impression for our guests. We usually get an “OMG I love your front door” message from our guests right after they check-in and we love that reaction!
