Spring arrived in full bloom at The Richland, where a beautifully styled courtyard brunch celebrated the quiet beauty of the season’s transition. Coordinated by Weddings by Susan Dunne and captured by photographer Shauntelle Sposto, this spring brunch embraced natural textures, seasonal florals, and thoughtful design inspired by the Southern California landscape as it awakens after winter. The result was a fresh, elevated take on spring entertaining, rooted in luxury and the beauty of nature’s fleeting moments.

The Inspiration
For this spring brunch, guests were greeted in the courtyard, where beautifully styled tables and the relaxed outdoor setting encouraged everyone to settle in, connect, and enjoy the day. The vision for this brunch was centered around the subtle beauty of early spring – that fleeting moment when winter hasn’t fully let go, but nature is beginning to wake up again. There’s something special about that transition, with overgrown branches, fresh green growth, and the first blooms of the season beginning to emerge. To capture that feeling, the tablescape featured seasonal florals and botanicals including fritillaria, hellebore, daffodils, and clematis, highlighting elements that are only available for a brief window each year. The finished look felt fresh, layered, and perfectly suited to a leisurely spring brunch in the courtyard.

The Details
Building on the feeling of early spring, the tablescape, designed in collaboration with Sarah of Mulberry & Moss and Shauntelle Sposto, drew inspiration from the Southern California landscape as it begins to wake up after winter. Mexican feather grass became a standout element, woven throughout the table to create movement and evoke the feeling of an overgrown hillside flowing through the design.
Soft lavender and mauve tones were layered with chartreuse, fresh greens, and natural wheat hues, while clematis added a delicate touch throughout the arrangements. Low, hidden vessels allowed the florals to feel as though they were blooming directly from the table, complemented by striped seating, layered linens, and custom hand-poured candles from Chandlerie. Every detail of this spring garden party was intentionally chosen to create a setting that felt natural, elevated, and quietly luxurious, while the entire installation was built using foam-free mechanics as part of a sustainability-minded approach.

As the final details came together for this spring garden party, the finished design captured the understated beauty of early spring in a way that felt both intentional and effortless. Rooted in seasonal ingredients and inspired by the Southern California landscape, the gathering offered a fresh perspective on spring entertaining.
