After your wedding, it’s easy to ride the high of celebration (and maybe a little exhaustion) without knowing exactly what comes next. But those first few weeks after your big day are full of opportunities to preserve the magic, wrap up the details and start the rest of your life together with intention. From thank you notes to keepsake boxes, here are 6 thoughtful and essential things to do after your wedding.

01. Gather & Organize Your Keepsakes.
Preserving the details of your big day starts while everything is still fresh. “Scan or photograph your invitations, programs, place cards and signage for a digital memory box, and store the originals in acid-free sleeves or a keepsake album,” says Jennifer Cortiella of Cortiella Photography.
And don’t forget the most treasured mementos of all, you’re dress. “Clean and box your gown. Choose a specialist familiar with bridal fabrics. Stains can set over time, so don’t delay,” adds Cortiella.

02. Send Thank You Notes
After your wedding, expressing appreciation is key. Thank you notes should be personal, prompt and heartfelt.
“Compile your guest list. Cross-check your registry site with RSVP cards to ensure you’ve captured every guest,” says Cortiella
“Personalize each message. Mention a specific gift or moment you appreciated. Aim to mail them within three months of your wedding to stay timely and thoughtful.”
03. Leave Vendor Reviews
The team that helped bring your vision to life deserves a little love, too. “Leaving thoughtful reviews of your experience working with them helps their business through ‘word of mouth’ and helps small businesses build credibility through a first-hand referral,” says Chloe Skelly of Chloe Alise Events
“If they really went above and beyond to make your day special, leaving a review is a huge way to thank them publicly so that future couples can be inspired to book them!” adds Jamie Bohlin of Cape Cod Celebrations
Katherine Rodriguez of Crossed Keys Estate echoes this. “Taking a few minutes to share your experience is a lasting and impactful way to say thank you.”
04. Update Any Legal Documents
After your wedding, don’t forget the legal part of the celebration. “Confirm your officiant sent the signed paperwork to the county clerk, then request certified copies for name changes.” Cortiella adds, “If you are changing your name, start with the Social Security Administration, then update your driver’s license, passport, bank accounts, insurance policies, and employer records.”
In addition, “Notify subscriptions and services. From magazine subscriptions to loyalty programs, make sure everyone has your new name,” Cortiella adds.

05. Manage Returns & Exchanges
Whether you received duplicates or changed your mind on registry items, now’s the time to take stock.
“Return windows can vary; many stores allow returns up to six months after purchase,” reminds Cortiella. “Exchange unwanted items for store credit, gift them to someone else, or donate to a charity of your choice.”
06. Keep The Celebration Alive
After your wedding, don’t forget to slow down and soak in the moment, just you two.
“Celebrate with a simple date night; no seating chart, no timeline, just the two of you soaking it all in,” says Sakhno. “Order your favorite takeout, go for a ride to nowhere, soak in the sun, open that good bottle of wine, and toast to the start of forever.”

Your wedding day may be over, but the adventure of marriage is just beginning. By tackling this post-I-do checklist, you’ll preserve precious memories, express gratitude and set the stage for many happy years ahead. Congratulations, and here’s to your new chapter together!
