A Girly Girl’s Nursery Turned Bedroom

This stylish mama designed her daughter’s room into the quintessential girly girl’s nursery with a modern color palette. Julia Salk filled the totally white space with dimension thanks to furniture in feminine shapes, blush pink accents, and plush textures in rugs and blankets. She’s in the midst of transforming the adorable nursery into a big girl’s bedroom and we think it’s the perfect canvas – just add a big girl bed!

Photographer, Vivian, of Sunday Kind of Love shares more about this sweet shoot…

Seeing Julia’s images of her little girl’s room on Instagram has always given me major bedroom goals. When I found out that Julia was making over her daughter’s room from a nursery to a big girl’s room, I knew I had to photograph this room to capture all the pretty corners before the transition! Luckily when I reached out to Julia she was 100% on board. She had been reluctant to dive into planning the new room because she was hoping to hold to on to her daughter’s baby stage for as long as she could. Julia said that her daughter, Issy, still loves her cozy bed so it’s worked out so far. Who wouldn’t love a bed in a beautiful, bright and airy room like this?

When designing this room, Julia was inspired by a blend of French chic and vintage styles. She still wanted the space for her daughter to feel girly, dreamy and warm and she did this by combining shades of pink with her love of an all white look.

For the main furniture pieces, Julia chose an all white crib, dresser and bookcase all from Restoration Hardware, with vintage features and a bit of a distressed finish which gave her that perfect touch of French chic style she was looking for.

Adding girly accents to the room was the most fun. Julia found a tufted pink pouf, a dusty rose sheep skin throw and decorative round mirrors at HomeSense. The trio of pink toy baskets (HomeSense) and set of grey scalloped nesting boxes keep the room functional and tidy with stylish storage containers for all of Issy’s toys. The kid’s size sherpa lounge chair from Pottery Barn and soft area rug (HomeSense) add texture to the room which help keep it warm and cozy.

My personal favorites are the playful details you find tucked away in the shelves and corners like a stuffed pink elephant (who doesn’t love a pink elephant!) and a wooly lamb toy. Also, the linen ballerina bunny sitting in front of the crib is from Homesense and the prints hanging above the crib, which Julia got from billyandscarlet.com add just the right amount of cuteness and fun.

Planning ahead for Issy’s big girl room, Julia wants it to reflect her daughter’s personality – girly, dainty and bright. Some pieces she is looking to add include a big girls bed, night stands, a desk and an accent wall. I’m on my toes with excitement, waiting to seeing what Julia comes with!
