Calling all mermaids! Or wannabe mermaids! For this sweet SoCal birthday girl, only a boho mermaid birthday party would do! The baby girl’s mama had the resources of her rental company, Crowned Rentals, at her fingertips to bring the shell-abration to life. She chose rattan pieces, macrame decor, and Peacock chairs to give the day that boho flair as well as have space to serve beachy desserts and for guests to take photos, and sit and enjoy. With cakes and cookies aplenty and seashells and starfish galore, the theme was perfectly executed and the party was a hit—especially with the birthday girl.

I can’t believe my daughter Tatum’s first birthday has come and gone! She has a very laidback personality and has been the world’s easiest and happiest baby, who is constantly smiling. Her first year was a breeze! In celebration of her birthday, I wanted to combine the California sunny weather, unique boho pieces, and ocean waves to match her personality. There had to be bright flowers to describe her happy self and I knew boho furniture would pull everything together. For the last several months, I have been finding and collecting vintage hobnail milk glass pieces. I’d find a vase online and go on one of my late night “mom runs” to acquire it. I loved the textures and look of each piece – they remind me of all of the textures in the ocean. This was a perfect way to tie boho chic in with the beautiful California beach theme I wanted.
The party was at our home in Long Beach, CA. I wanted to create a special table for the kids to bask in all things mermaid. Lotta Treats created the mini sized custom cookies, which mirrored the “grown-up” sized cookies on the dessert table. My husband was so obsessed with her cookies, he made sure to put two aside for later. They are so good! The macramé table runner down the center was the perfect boho touch and complemented all of the bright, iridescent plates.
The sunburst wicker side table was a vintage find and I knew exactly what it needed to be used for–to display her amazing smash cake created by Couture Cupcakery. My husband created a large natural wood backdrop for the table and Lady Stardust events added a pastel balloon arch adorned with florals to make the table pop. My sweet little mermaid had the best day being loved on by family and friends. It was quite the shell-ebration!
This mermaid birthday party is perfect for summertime, but we love this California winter theme too!
