This design duo is as dynamic as the homes are they create! We recently had the chance to virtually sit down with Aly and Leigh of Pure Salt Interiors to get to know them and their design process a little better. What we walked away with was a whole lot of gorgeous home inspiration! And also a bit of encouragement to follow a passion and see it to fruition. They are the coolest and so is their style, so we know you’ll love this beautiful coastal home tour they are sharing with us here today.
First of all, tell us a little about Pure Salt Interiors! How did you get into design?
We met in college when we were assigned as roommates at CalPoy San Luis Obispo. We quickly became best friends through our shared creative passion. Living in multiple places together for over 10 years, we were constantly designing and redesigning our space. This passion has continued in our careers and bought us here to Pure Salt Interiors.
As partners in Pure Salt, this place is our passion. We love the entire creative process of dreaming up and building out a space for friends and family to enjoy – we see the home as a backdrop to life. It is a place that catches you in your everyday moments: breakfast in bed on a Sunday, relaxing after a long day of work, or enjoying your baby’s first steps. We believe that the home should not just be pretty, but a reflection of one’s life, a place to tell your story, to rejuvenate, re-energize and grow. Also, a well-designed space filled with expressive elements, calming vibes, and loads of character provides a meaningful setting for memories to be made.
Have you two always worked together?
No, but we have always collaborated and shared a creative passion. We started Pure Salt Interiors about ten months ago and have loved every minute of it. We have amazing clients and a bunch of really exciting projects finishing up that we can’t wait to share!
Your style is quintessential Californian – is that where the name Pure Salt came from?
Yes! We are both Southern California girls who grew up at the beach. Our favorite thing to do is spend time together with our families relaxing and enjoying the sun, sand and salty air. We love bringing this ‘California Cool’ into the home.
The inspiration for the Rancho Mission Viejo Marisol Project seen here was exactly this. The many windows brought in amazing natural light so when it came to styling we wanted something that was functional but also elevated the look. We love how the woven woods on the windows give the room privacy while also accenting the light. The lace rattan pendants provide the perfect soft light while also letting the natural light shine. We added wood and plant accents to give the room a little more depth and texture. In addition, we brought in some concrete accents for a little fun and modern flare. Lastly, we fell in love with the rug and had fun with mixing and matching the different blues and patterns.
What does the design process look like with a client? Where do you start?
Everyone’s needs are different so we try and make it simple. Whether you are designing an entire home, one room, or just need a little help pulling your space together, we can do it.
Step 1: Set-up a 1 hour consultation. During this meeting we will discuss the details of your project including budget and how we can help.
Step 2: After seeing the space, we create a custom proposal for your project that outlines the design help we think you need and how we can help.
Step 3: The fun begins! We design and share design boards that showcase how we can bring your space to life. This could include floor plans, color pallets, furnishing exploration and styling overview.
Step 4: Upon approval of the design, we then execute. This includes all ordering, installation and finally styling of your space.
Is it difficult to blend your personal style with theirs?
No! That’s the fun part. We love collaborating with our clients to bring their vision to life.
Finally, do you have any design Rules to live by?
The home is such an important place- where you rest your heart, build your family, come together, grow, learn and live. We think it is our job to honor this, make it beautiful, functional, fun and alive for everyone who may enter.
