A Vintage Pink and Yellow Baby Shower

It started as a ‘sprinkle’ for Brittany’s, of Reality and Retrospect, baby girl on the way, and turned into an extravagant, vintage pink and yellow baby shower. Brittany and her mom, Bobette, don’t take any party lightly, so it’s no surprise this shower is full of creative backdrops, florals, cocktails, and favors – and a wooden swing to boot! They went all out on the pretty perfect-for-a-baby-girl shower and we’re thrilled to share it with you! Below, take it all in and get the details from Brittany herself on everything that made this day so special…

Earlier this summer my mom and I visited the Museum of Ice Cream in LA. We were so inspired by all of the colors and different rooms, and especially the sprinkle pools. As we swam around in faux sprinkles I said ‘this would be a good baby shower theme,’ and that’s when we started planning my extravagant baby shower. I know it may be a faux pas to help plan your own shower, but my mom and I are a team and have a hard time doing anything on our own!

We took the pink and yellow color scheme and modified it to include some more ochre tones and all sorts of pinks. We knew we wanted to use pink plexiglass, do something with a swing, and have some cool backdrops. Bobette, my mom, went all out with the conceptualizing and styling of the event. We also got some amazing vendors on board to help us with our vision.

We started with an amazing blank slate at the Smoke and Brine Warehouse. The venue was the perfect size so that we could fill every corner, and the white and black walls provided the best simple backdrop for all of the color we brought in. Adore folklore provided all of the rentals, including the adorable seating area in just the right colors, and that amazing wicker bar.

MadMade Designs provided the florals and really brought our colors together with her natural and elegant centerpieces. Plus, she floralized a swing that we had custom made for the shower, which was the perfect addition. Loren of Four Things Paper created our invites which were Britt Bass inspired, and also did all of the calligraphy and signage. She worked with Jenn and Jules design to create each of the pink plexiglass place cards for each of our guests. Along with that, guests got to take home little boxes of custom mixed of sprinkles from Sweetapolita.

We wanted to created backdrops that were effective and colorful without being too difficult. Behind the main table area we used bubblegum pink plastic table cloths to make giant stripes on the white wall. It was cheap and super easy, but had such a cool effect! We had a little ‘photo op’ area with our pretty macrame swing, and a paper chain backdrop inspired by a tutorial from the House that Lars Built. Over our seating area we hung a gallery of our Britt Bass artworks, which have always inspired us. And in the middle we hung a giant plexiglass cut out of my baby girl’s name, Cecelia Faye, made my Jenn and Jules design. We brought along some of baby girl clothes and shoes I have already gotten to include in the decor and styling behind the bar area.

Kristine of Eat Your Cake Too used those same Sweetapolita sprinkles on her adorable cake. We also had sugar cookies from Shimmer Sugar, and Panna Cotta from Lanell Lange Catering. Finally, Smoke and Brine Co. provided all of the delicious food, including chicken and waffles and the prettiest charcuterie board I’ve ever seen. And at the bar we made ice cream floats for our guests.

I would have been happy to just hang out in that pretty room for a few hours, eat the food and call it good. But then when all of my closest friends arrived to help celebrate my baby girl it became straight magical. It was such a fun evening that I will never forget. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our vision and helped us get ready for my next baby!
