By now, you know we love to use essential oils and share what we know and are learning with you here! We’ve discussed the best oils to have at work, how E.O.s can change the way you feel, things you didn’t know you could use oils for, and now something you can hopefully incorporate into your family life. Specifically, these essential oils are great for your kids. With back to school season upon us, moms everywhere often worry about the germs kids will pick up on the playground. Not only is it important to make sure your kid’s immunity is high, but also, that they are getting everything they need at home. From a good night’s sleep to parents who aren’t totally stressed out with busyness, these oils will help. Promise!
Here, our friend Melody, who calls herself obsessed with essentials, shares a few blends that will help you and your kids during this busy season and beyond. If you are new to essential oils, we highly recommend DoTerra pure oils. If you’re ready to get started now, you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. But if you are set with oils and are just here for more information, read on. These are our favorite oils for the little ones in our lives. P.S. all of these blends are using DoTerra oils and oil blends.
What to Diffuse
Kill Germs: On guard, Frankincense, Wild Orange
Help Wake Up in the Morning: Motivate Blend (this is a blend of citrus, peppermint, and vanilla oils)
Encourage Homework: Intune Blend or a blend of Rosemary, Vetiver, Wild Orange, and Peppermint
When You’re Stressed: A blend of Clarysage to balance hormones, Serenity, Balance, Console, and Peace. This is a great blend to put in the car via a car diffuser. If you don’t have a car diffuser you can put a drop of each oil on a cotton ball and wedge it on your air vent.
Help Kids Sleep: Serenity, Vetiver Balance, Juniper Berry
What to Use Topically
When Your Kid Does Get Sick: A blend of On Guard, Oregano, Melaleuca, Lemon, and Frankincense. Another great option, says Melody, is elderberry syrup, probiotics, and Manuka Honey.
Manuka honey is also great for a cough. If your child is struggling specifically with cough, cold, and congestion, you can blend Lime, Frankincense, Breathe, White Fir, and Marjoram. Melody also says, “I love this very easy garlic salve you can make: mix 8 cloves of garlic in a food processor or blender with 1/3 cup of coconut oil and 10 drops of lavender. I apply it to the bottoms of the feet and then put socks on! It’s a miracle worker!”
For Stinky Shoes: Drop a little Purify oil and Wild Orange or Melaluca in shoes. These oils have antibacterial and anti fungal properties and will take the smell away instantly.
If Your Kid has ADHD: A blend of Lavender, Vetiver, Frankincense, and Cedarwood. Based on a 2001 study by Dr. Terry Friedman, Vetiver oil is an effective treatment for children with ADHD. “The final results were extremely promising — lavender oil’s benefits were apparent, as it increased performance by 53 percent, cedarwood essential oil increased performance by 83 percent and vetiver oil increased performance by 100 percent!” says Dr. Axe. You can read more about the study here.
