From the bride-to-be…

“Our story began in the busy hallways of junior high when Derek and I found ourselves sitting next to each other in Texas history. We both had a real knack for pushing each other’s buttons, and if someone had told us then that we would be getting married today, our reaction would not have been pretty.  We went through high school running in different circles of friends, so it wasn’t until college that we re-connected.  Luckily, life gave us time to grow and mature before bringing us together again.  Despite attending different universities and living a hundred miles away, it was comical how many times we would randomly run into each other. Parties, restaurants, libraries you name it. The universe was telling us something. So eventually we listened. We re-kindled our friendship and discovered our mutual love for dogs, Sunday brunch, and the Houston Rockets. Fast forward seven years, a move to California, and three graduate degrees later- Derek proposes to me during my family’s yearly Secret Santa exchange.  My sixth sense and uncanny ability to ruin surprises was caught off guard when he presented the final gift to me after adamantly refusing to participate in the first place.  You can imagine the surprise and roar of 25 people and 8 dogs in a living room when he pulled out a tiny box and got down on one knee.  I was shocked and speechless realizing that the boy who sat next to me in Texas History was asking to be by my side for the rest of our lives.  In less than a month we will be tying the knot in Austin,Texas as our friends and loved ones witness us promise to be buddies for life.  I couldn’t be more excited to marry my best friend and look forward to life as a married couple.”

Friends since Jr. High!?  A secret Santa exchange proposal?!  Are you dying from this cuteness yet!?  Well if that didn’t get you (but it probably did) then we’re pretty sure Missy’s outfits will.  She has the cutest style, mixing everything from polka dots to lace with lots of bright pops of color.  Derek is right on trend too though with his chambray, gingham, and striped shirts and those fun boat shoes.  A couple that dresses well together stays together perhaps!?  Thanks again to (new!) What I typically find is people don’t have a full understanding of what exactly PR is and the value it provides. Perhaps the hardest part of seeing the value of PR is understanding that a lot of its value is unable to be statistically measured – industry reputation, brand awareness and relationships.. those things definitely have an effect on the amount and type of weddings you book, but it’s not as simple to calculate.

So what is PR? When most people think of PR they immediately think of traditional press releases, email blasts and crisis management. While that certainly is part of it (albeit a very, very small part), people seem to forget that the second word in PR is “relations.”

PR is how you treat your clients, how you write emails, keeping up with changes in your industry, being proactive, your social media identity, being smart about press submissions,  brand messaging , handling mistakes with grace, giving back and how you treat your colleagues. Bottom line: PR is the maintenance of image and relationships between your business and the public. When you’re a small business owner, essentially everything from your daily conversations to the images you post on Instagram is PR.

No, not everyone needs full-time PR representation. And no, not everyone can afford full-time PR. But that doesn’t mean you don’t need help putting together an overall PR strategy for you brand. Or look into small-scale/collaboration opportunities. One of the worst mistakes a business owner can make is to decide not to invest, time or money, into a PR strategy.

So to answer the “what can you do for me” question, there’s a lot a PR strategy can do for you. It can attract new business, get your work published on blogs and in magazines,  create “buzz” around your businesses, increase your worth and put your name in front of the right people. There’s no better, more authentic way to build your brand.

Books are one of the first interactions a parent will have with a child and it is so exciting to see kids begin to take interest in them!  We love how Angela and her family not only found a gorgeous greenhouse to take some family photos at but incorporated what we’re sure is an extra special ritual in their home…reading!  Despite being outdoors it feels so cozy with their knit blanket and snuggly moments.  We love the kids sweet little faces and you can see how much love and laughter is in this family.

“I did all of the crafts from my wedding like the cake banner, the cake pop flags, pom-poms, banner and the backdrop of tissue paper for the photo-booth and all the glitter letters.  We also wanted long tables and all connected to each other so no one would feel alone.  We wanted something more intimate but still beautiful with pretty details and great food. We used Jones Sodas for our wedding souvenirs and for guest to drink.  The other empty bottles I collected from Starbucks and cleaned myself.  I did give myself lots of time to plan so I wouldn’t stress about it!”

We can’t get enough of their intimate ceremony with only their closest friends and family surrounded by the gorgeous sculpture garden.  The reception had the perfect “backyard wedding” feel to it with the baby’s breath and pastel flowers with all of those mismatched bottles.  Of course the blush, mint, and gold are right on trend for spring too!  Thanks to our amazing Be Inspired Network member Alixann Loosle for sending this wedding our way!
