A Hallmark-Worthy Family Friendly Holiday Home

Over the years, Safinaaz – mama of twins (tour their nursery here!) and blogger behind The Grey Canvas – has collected small items here and there for her dream Hallmark-worthy Christmas home, when she would celebrate Christmas with her babies; rocking horses, ornaments, a Polar Express train. Here, we’re happy to unleash all the holiday spirit as we tour her family friendly holiday home. You won’t be able to get enough of all the stunning decor and her sweet babes, who totally steal the show!

Do you have any family traditions around the holidays that you’ve started since having your twins?

Yes we do! Ever since we had the twins, we decorate our whole house to create a warm and festive vibe so they too can get into the holiday spirit. We have all our family and relatives come over for our annual Christmas Eve dinner because it’s a great way for them to bond and connect with their cousins. We also started hosting a Christmas morning  breakfast where we can all open our gifts together, though at the present moment they seem more fascinated with the colorful and shiny wrapping paper over the gifts ?.

What are some of the ways you make this season extra special for them?

Every year I bake Christmas cookies. This year I’ll get my twins to help me decorate them and get involved in helping decorate our first home made Gingerbread house. This year, I’ll also get them to help me decorate the tree and pick out two new ornaments to commemorate their second Christmas.

What are your best tips when it comes to decorating your home for the holidays?

Have a vision of what you’d like your space to look like. Identify key elements, and most importantly, know how tall of a tree your space can accommodate (I went originally for a 7ft tree and had to swap it for a 9ft free). Find out if you want a fresh cut tree or an artificial tree (there is no harm in getting an artificial tree). The same goes for garlands. Start out small and slowly build up your decoration.

Anything you steer clear from with little ones?

Toddlers love to put everything in their mouth, and I mean everything. So just be careful what you have that looks attractive to go in their mouth and place it out of arm reach. Or, just be with them whenever they are near your holiday decor. We made sure to have the family room with zero decor so they could have fun with their toys and I didn’t have to worry about our holiday decorations being broken or end up in their mouth ?.

What is your favorite part of this season?

Oh that’s easy! Having everyone in my family and my husbands family under one roof! And those that can’t make it, we have multiple devices on video conference so no one is left out.
