You Can’t Steal Second Base and Keep One Foot on First

You have all these ideas, yet you don’t take action on them. It’s almost like you are stuck – too overwhelmed or afraid to take the wrong steps so you do nothing at all. You know you need to be relevant and do more social media and you will…but then you don’t. You stay stuck in your routine. If you don’t change the routine, you won’t move forward.

You keep saying “Yes, I’m going to raise my rates,” “Yes, I’m going to make time to tweet more,” and “Yes, I promise I’ll blog,” — but then you don’t. You get mad: Why do these other companies keep getting lots of clients? Why do they keep getting features? Quite simply, they are moving and you aren’t. They aren’t standing still and you are too busy to try to figure out how, when, and where to make the leap and start moving your business forward.

Remaining where you are is safe. Business is coming in, so it’s fine. While you are OK with the opportunities that come your way for the time being, you must put one foot forward in anticipation for what’s next. That is how we are able to change, grow, and ultimately stay viable longer!!

I am constantly thinking of how I can move, re-design, improve, and change again. I want to be here a long time in the wedding and lifestyle business, so I’m OK with taking the risk to steal the base. I might fail and have to run back to first base, but I’m OK with that.

I’ve done it before. I’ll do it again. So should you!

  1. Sat down with somebody this week and she mentioned she had built her business 3 times over the 2 decades she’s been in business. We have to constantly improve. Thanks for the inspiration.
