Women in Business Spotlight: Callie Canfield Worthington at BHLDN

We don’t know about you but Anthropologie is always one of our go-to’s when out shopping!  We would wear pretty much everything in the store not to mention outfit our entire house with the decor pieces and yummy candles!  Needless to say, when Anthropologie launched their wedding division, BHLDN, in 2011 we were beyond ourselves.  They carry everything from gorgeous wedding dresses to the perfect vintage guest book for your big day.  They really have something for everyone and we always get excited to see what they’re coming up with!  Today we’re peeking inside the Philadelphia office of BHLDN’s Marketing and Communications Director, Callie Canfield Worthington!  We’re always inspired by influential women in business and Callie is definitely making an impact!  Read on to hear what a typical day in the life looks like for her and maybe even snag a little business advice from one of the best!

What does a typical day in your position look like?

I don’t typically have a typical day!  I lead all marketing and communications for BHLDN—the PR, social media, digital marketing, search, advertising, partnerships, store openings and events.  My day to day varies, but it could include anything from writing talking points for our executives, to attending a store event, to planning an ad buy.  I travel quite a bit—I’ve definitely become an expert at strategic packing!  Since we’re such a small team, I step in wherever I’m needed, which means I’m always doing something different and I’m always learning.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My incredible team.  They make me want to come to work every day, and I never stop learning from them—I’m very lucky.

Where do you find inspiration for your job as well as everyday life?

All over!  I love Pinterest, Loverly and a bunch of other fashion/wedding blogs.  I also get some of the greatest inspiration from traveling to new places.  Paris, Hong Kong, and Greece are some of my favorites…but I still have a long list of places I’m dying to visit!

What has been your favorite moment or event to be a part of with your job?

I’d have to say our recent pop-up shop in NYC.  We set up shop on the Upper East Side, taking close to 200 bridal appointments in a week.  I revel in any opportunity I get to spend time with our brides.  They’re the most gracious, lovely, laid back ladies.  When people ask me to describe our customer I always say ‘she’s someone you’d want to be friends with!’

Best business advice you’ve ever received?

Be a ‘yes’ person.  I moved up quickly in my career when I learned to step in wherever I was needed, as often as I could.  It sometimes feels easier in the moment to say ‘that doesn’t fall under me’ or ‘that’s out of my job description’, but it never looks good.  I went from handling one piece of marketing to handling the entire department by contributing to projects that were out of my realm.  Now, as a manager, that’s the first thing I look for in a team member.  When I see someone who’s not only capable, but willing to take on more than what he or she signed up for, I know I’ve found a star.

What you wanted to be when you grew up: Psychologist

Beauty secret: Water!  I drink a ton of it.

Celebrity style crush: Carey Mulligan.  Part girly-girl, part tom-boy.

Secret talent: Not sure that this is a talent, but I have an insane tolerance for hot things.  I always finish my coffee before any else has even taken a sip!

I can’t live without: My husband…and pizza.
