Wedding Magazines and The Power Of Print

A while ago I came across an advertisement in a  magazine that really struck a chord. It talked about how the internet is fantastic but how magazines aren’t losing their clout and impact. I love the internet and all the wedding blogs we have at our finger tips. However, there is no question that I just love the touch, feel, and experience of flipping through a magazine. They are not only a source of wonderful inspiration for many brides and wedding industry vendors, but they are an ode to history and leaving behind a legacy in print of the who, the what, the when, and the why we all love weddings. I work with them every day and I respect them. It’s not easy to produce something with the overhead, the expectations, the competition, the tight turn around of deadlines, and balancing the line of supporting their advertisers and showcasing unbiased editorial.

So here is my shout out to all my favorite wedding magazine’s out there! Bridal Guide, Martha Stewart Weddings, Inside Weddings, Bride and Bloom, The Knot, Destination I Do, Destination Weddings and Honeymoons, Brides, Weddings Unveiled, Wedding Style Town and Country Weddings, Real Simple Weddings, Wed Luxe, Southern Weddings, Exquisite Weddings and C Weddings

The quotes below are parts of the ad campaign I wanted to share with you. Check out the Magazines: Power of Print full campaign to see more.

“The Internet is exhilarating. Magazines are enveloping. The Internet grabs you. Magazines embrace you. The Internet is impulsive. Magazines are immersive. And both media are growing.”

“A new medium doesn’t necessarily displace an existing one. Just as movies didn’t kill radio. Just as TV didn’t kill movies. An established medium can continue to flourish so long as it continues to offer a unique experience. And, as reader loyalty and growth demonstrate, magazines do. Which is why people aren’t giving up swimming just because they also enjoy surfing.”

  1. As much as I am a wedding blog addict, I agree it’s always so lovely to flip through the pages of a magazine. Those last two quotes are great ~ I’d never really thought of it in that way before.

  2. I whole-heartedly agree, Leila! I love the tangible feel of curling up with a magazine. There is nothing like it. I love all of my technology gadgets. But, because I spend so much time on technology, I don’t feel like I can totally unwind while reading something on a tablet, phone, or computer. It’s hard to relax. (Maybe it reminds me too much of work. Or the work is only one app away on these gadgets.) However, when I dig into a book or magazine, then I can completely dig in and relax.

  4. No matter how fantastic its digital counterpart, I never seem to tire of my paper magazines. We have years of our Wedding Mags in every corner of our offices and we can’t seem to part with any of them. Come to think of it, it’s like having our own little slice of Wed Biz history ….

  5. @WeddingPR love your blog today about the power of print and 100% agree. Today’s media is consumed in and “and” not “either/or” world!

  6. This ad campaign has also caught my eye in the past. I think it is very well executed and makes a lot of sense. But ultimately, content is king, and whether it’s in print or online…that’s what will keep readers engaged and coming back for more. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Thanks for including Exquisite Weddings! We couldn’t agree with you more. The excitement that first time a newly engaged bride gets to pick up all the new magazines is something that will never go away.
