What is Uprise Art and how did it come about?

Uprise Art is an online art gallery for the next generation of art collectors. I started the company in 2011 to make it easier for people to find one-of-a-kind artwork. At the time, there were a few companies selling affordable prints, but not many options for curated original art. Our gallery features fewer better options, and tells the stories behind the artwork. Our Journal includes interesting artist interviews and collector profiles, and makes it easier to learn about artwork and fall in love with the perfect piece!

Everything Uprise Art features is beautiful and contemporary! What's the process of picking pieces to feature in your gallery? How do you find new artists?

We now represent more than 100 artists! We look for artists who have a unique view of the world and a conceptually compelling artistic practice. There are lots of artists who can make something beautiful; we’re focused on artists who go one step further and create memorable meaningful work.

Your office matches that contemporary style so well - what was the inspiration for the design and what are your favorite parts?

We wanted to emphasize the fact that we’re an innovative company and not a traditional brick and mortar gallery. Our office is designed to be an inspiring place for our team to work, as well as a comfortable and inviting space for collectors and interior designers to stop in and view pieces in person. My favorite part is the 80-foot long white brick wall! We are constantly changing up the artwork on the wall and it’s a visual reminder of the reason we work so hard – to support incredible artists, and make it easier for people to surround themselves with interesting artwork.

Did you have certain artwork in mind when decorating?

The artwork in our office is constantly changing! That’s something I always tell collectors: where you hang artwork isn’t set in stone, and moving art around your home or office is a great way to see things in a different light (literally).

What would you suggest to someone decorating a new space - where do they start?

If you are new to collecting original art, start slow or with small pieces. You’ll learn a lot about your tastes and style as you go. Uprise Art‘s art advisors can help curate artwork options based on what you are looking for, free of charge. Just tell us a little bit about what you are looking for!

We don't even know where to begin when it comes to collecting art - any tips?

It’s actually very simple – collect art that you love. There are no rules. You can place a small artwork on a large wall. You can have an eclectic collection that includes all kinds of mediums and styles. The only thing that matters is that the work makes you happy.

You've created such a cool & modern company! What advice would you give to other young entrepreneurs looking to launch their business?

My biggest piece of advice is to get started, and not wait for everything to be perfect first. It’s much easier to learn about how to serve your customers better once you have customers.
