PR Tip 101: Is there such thing as too much hype in the wedding industry?

I was recently inspired by one of my coaching sessions with Custom Programs and wanted to pose the question to all of you… is there too much hype in the wedding industry? Everyday there are new companies, products, and services popping up in our industry and being referred to as the “hot new thing”. It’s definitely exciting to be a part of what’s new and different but I think sometimes we sell others short just because they’re not producing the most current trend.

Veterans in our industry may not always have the trendiest products or services, but they have tried and true experience and quality offerings that have earned them their respected reputations. Instead of falling for the latest craze, they concentrate their efforts on making a quality product that transcends fads. I think it’s important to ask yourself: is my business built on what’s popular right now? Will my product/service still be relevant in the next few years?

Each couple strives to make their wedding unique and fitting to their personality and style, so even if you’re not  the trendiest option to some, there’s still a market of brides out there that will love you for you and what you offer! Those that are able to understand the trends and the constant change in the wedding industry will be around to stay in business for the long haul.

Hype can be great for building a business, but if hype and trends are all you’re built on, you may be in trouble when things begin to shift around again. If you are looking for a long and successful career in the wedding industry it’s important to know your target audience, be open to change and continue to perfect your craft! At the send of the day, hype will only take you so far.

  1. Love this 🙂 thanks for the reassurance! I may not always have the most popular style but my business savvy is what has kept me around!

  2. I love this! From someone who doesn’t necessarily follow trends, but finds inspiration in my clients, I thought this was a great read. I hope to see more blogs and magazines featuring work that isn’t necessarily in line with the trends but is still fabulous!

  3. very good!! I could not agree more that this is something to be considered. Like Madonna….we must continually “reinvent” or we shall cease to be!
