PR Tips 101: YOUR Product, YOUR Brand… YOUR Wedding Business!

“Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.”~ Judy Garland.

I read this quote the other day and it really hit me as I’ve been thinking a lot about my business and where I want to take it. Like many of you, I sometimes have to take a step back to think about my growth and direction and remember the business should reflect my visions and dreams. This quote served as the perfect reminder! With all the trends coming and going it’s so important to be true to yourself, personally and professionally. While admiring and drawing inspiration from others is natural and important, the key to success is being the best YOU. What’s going to make you different or make you stand apart from the competition? Have you created a sustainable Wedding Business you can be happy with or did you model it after someone else’s work that in a few months isn’t going to be relevant to you anymore? I believe your business and work should reflect your individuality. After all, there is no one in the world you’re exactly like, so why try to make your business exactly like someone else’s? When coaching clients come into the office for business consulting I’d much rather see their product and say, “Wow! This is different! It may need some work, but it’s unique because it’s very them” rather than saying, “This is beautiful and amazing, but it looks just like so-and-so.” As we all know, the wedding industry is fairly small… But there’s enough room for everyone to have a first-rate version of themselves without copying others. After all, at the end of the day it’s YOU who has to be in love with what you do and happy with the product you’re offering! If you’re true to that I guarantee you’ll find clients gravitating to your business!

  1. Nicely inspiring! Comes on a day I had prospects email me to say they’ve been looking at other photographers but couldn’t find anyone that compares with me. And of course I wanted to tell them, ‘mama always said there’s only one of me’.

  2. This is so well put. So many people in the wedding community are robbing themselves of being who they are. They don’t understand how far behind, just the one decision to be like someone else puts them. They are always behind or a second rate version of someone else. It also robs them of the personal satisfaction that comes with doing your own thing.

  3. You’re a mind reader!

I’ve been struggling with my need to understand other companies and then think, “I could have done that.”

This time, I’m going to put my vision first and be a first-rate original … not a second-rate wannabe!

    Thanks for the great post.

    Best,
    Raquel
